Job summary

WSP is seeking an Assistant Lighting Designer to contribute to projects across Commercial, Urban Realm, Transportation, Infrastructure, Healthcare and Education. You will work within the Lighting and Energy Solutions team on design concepts, calculations, and specifications, collaborating with Electrical, Environmental and Road Network disciplines.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree or equivalent in Architecture, Lighting Design, Interior Design, Product Design, Engineering or related field.
Understanding of lighting design principles and desire to gain experience across project types and delivery methods.
Interest in contributing to creative lighting concepts that communicate ideas through clear visual and written storytelling.
Experience supporting team members and eagerness to learn from senior designers.
Collaborative approach with attention to detail and willingness to support multidisciplinary teams.
Experience using lighting modelling and calculation software (DIALux Evo).
Experience using Revit and AutoCAD; willingness to further develop these skills.
Familiarity with Adobe Creative Suite and Microsoft Office.

Responsibilities

Assist in developing lighting concepts, narratives, and design strategies across project stages.
Produce lighting designs, sketches, calculations, graphical drawings and specifications; assist in design reports and lighting control schematics.
Participate in client-facing discussions with support from senior colleagues.
Produce detailed design drawings, luminaire detailing, and integrate lighting within architecture and landscape.
Gather client requirements and maintain positive communication with project stakeholders.
Support technical delivery from concept through design development and assist with site activities.
Attend design and site meetings, lighting demonstrations, surveys, and generate technical reports.
Coordinate work with other disciplines and support cross-functional collaboration.
Develop project documentation for planning applications, tender submissions, construction packages, and as-built documentation.
Develop understanding of standards, legislation and best practice for lighting and the built environment.
