Job description

Assistant Librarian - Long Term Substitute

Severn School seeks a long-term substitute for an Assistant Librarian position to support students and faculty in grades 6-12.

Reporting to the Library Director, the Assistant Librarian will help ensure the library is a welcoming, service-oriented place. In conjunction with other library staff, this temporary employee will supervise a two-story library that is often bustling with students and faculty. This individual will also assist with collection inventory, circulation, and student clubs.

This temporary position begins in late March 2025 and ends on June 6, 2025 (The actual dates will be determined prior to hire.)

Qualifications (preferred candidates will possess the following qualifications):

  1. Completed or current enrollment in an MILS/MLS program AND/OR previous experience working in a public library or school library
  2. Experience working with children and young adults
  3. Ability to establish effective and collaborative working relationships with students and colleagues
  4. Appropriate technology skills to accomplish job responsibilities
  5. Strong organizational and time management skills

Position Expectations (the individual selected to fill this position will be expected to carry out the following responsibilities, though the list is not exhaustive):

  1. Open the library at 7:30 AM OR close the library at 4:00 PM
  2. Supervise middle and upper school students
  3. Help with the monthly Middle School Book Club and Library Club for April and May
  4. Help with the Middle School Battle of the Books
  5. Help students with printing/copying*
  6. Circulate materials*
  7. Help with end-of-year collection inventory*

*We will provide onboarding and training for these duties.
