Job Description:

The University of Toledo Department of Theatre and Film seeks to hire a Lecturer in Technical Direction & Theatre Technology to begin August 2025. This is a 9-month teaching position with teaching and practical duties. Teaching duties include Theatre Technology I & II, Intro to Theatre, and courses in expertise areas. The candidate must mentor students working on independent projects in theatre technology.

Responsibilities include:

  1. Producing technical drawings for Scenery & Lighting/Sound
  2. Determining construction materials & supplies
  3. Overseeing construction & production budgets
  4. Hiring, supervising & mentoring students in drafting, construction & theatre technology both in the classroom and in the production shops
  5. Constructing & installation of scenery, lighting & sound
  6. Mentoring student workers in all areas of theatre technology
  7. Incorporating safety regulations into theatre technology curriculum
  8. Organizing and maintaining working theatre spaces.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education: MFA or MA in Theatre with significant professional experience as a Technical Director & in Theatre and/or Entertainment.

Working knowledge of:

  • Fabrication techniques (wood and metal)
  • Theatrical rigging
  • Computer Drafting in AutoCAD and/or Vectorworks 3D/2D
  • Electrics & Sound equipment and technology
  • ETC ION console programming
  • Knowledge of safety precautions and procedures
