Job summary

The ideal candidate has 2-3 years in landscaping with crew leadership experience, OSHA knowledge, and proficiency in MS Office.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or technical certificate.
  • 2-3 years of experience in commercial landscaping, grounds management, or landscape construction.
  • 1+ years of landscaping crew lead experience.
  • Basic understanding of horticulture, turf care, irrigation systems, and landscape construction techniques.
  • Knowledge of OSHA safety standards and landscape-specific safety practices.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Teams, Outlook, Excel).
  • Valid driver's license.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain access to restricted or government properties.

Responsibilities

  • Work directly with landscaping crews performing planting, mulching, pruning, turf care, irrigation troubleshooting, hardscape assistance, and site clean-up.
  • Support Crew Leaders and Project Managers by reinforcing instructions and promoting safe work habits.
  • Assist with scheduling, material tracking, and daily progress documentation while staying field‑focused.
  • Participate in routine inspections to verify quality, contract compliance, and report findings for corrective action.
  • Help operate, maintain, and troubleshoot landscaping equipment such as mowers, trimmers, blowers, skid steers, and irrigation tools.
  • Enforce OSHA regulations, PPE requirements, equipment safety protocols, and environmental standards.

Schedule: Monday through Friday: 7:00 am — 3:30 pm; nights and weekends as needed.

Location: Newport Naval Station, Newport, Rhode Island.

CW is seeking a motivated and detail‑oriented Assistant Project Manager (APM) to support daily commercial landscaping operations, assist Project Managers and Crew Leaders, and help ensure projects are completed safely, efficiently, and to CW’s high standards of quality. This hands‑on, field‑focused role is not a desk job; most time will be on site, learning the full project lifecycle while actively supporting crews and contributing to successful project delivery.

Responsibilities
  • Work directly with landscaping crews performing tasks such as planting, mulching, pruning, turf care, irrigation troubleshooting, hardscape assistance, and site clean‑up to maintain quality and productivity.
  • Support Crew Leaders and Project Managers by reinforcing instructions, helping train new team members, promoting safe work habits, and modeling teamwork and professionalism.
  • Assist with scheduling, material tracking, and daily progress documentation while keeping office time minimal to remain present in the field.
  • Participate in routine inspections to identify deficiencies, verify quality, ensure contract compliance, and communicate findings to the Project Manager for corrective action.
  • Help operate, maintain, and troubleshoot landscaping equipment such as mowers, trimmers, blowers, skid steers, and irrigation tools, ensuring safe and proper use.
  • Help enforce OSHA regulations, PPE requirements, equipment safety protocols, and environmental standards to maintain a safe job site.
  • Support the Project Manager in responding to urgent site needs such as storm damage, irrigation issues, or safety hazards to protect client property and maintain service continuity.
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or technical certificate.

Physical & Environmental Demands
  • Frequent outdoor mobility: standing, walking, bending, kneeling, crouching, and climbing throughout the day on uneven terrain.

  • Environmental elements: dust, dirt, pollen, mulch, fertilizers, pesticides, insects, wildlife, and other natural outdoor elements.
  • Chemical & material safety: occasional handling of fertilizers, herbicides, pesticides, and soil amendments with proper training and PPE.
  • Confined or awkward spaces: accessing tight areas such as irrigation valve boxes, planting beds, behind structures, or beneath shrubs and trees.
  • Noise exposure: regular noise from mowers, trimmers, blowers, chainsaws, and construction equipment; hearing protection is provided when needed.
  • Terrain navigation: safe movement across uneven ground, soft soil, gravel, slopes, and wet/slippery surfaces while carrying tools.
  • Extended physical activity: sustained walking, assisting crews, and performing hands‑on tasks during peak seasons.
  • Vehicle & equipment transport: loading, unloading, and securing tools, trailers, and materials; may require backing trailers or maneuvering vehicles in tight spaces.
  • Potential hazards: sharp tools, moving equipment, falling branches, irrigation water pressure, and construction‑related hazards; safety training and PPE mandatory.
