Job description

Hours: Full-Time

Compensation: $16.00 - $18.00 per hour, depending on experience + additional incentive payment of 7% total wages.
Seasonal Position: May/June - October 2025
Start date: May/June 2025

Experience: We will provide training for enthusiastic candidates. Previous experience is not required.

JOB SUMMARY:

  1. Responsible for accepting, checking-in, and stocking deliveries, rotating inventory stock, maintaining cleanliness and sanitation of storage rooms and refrigeration/freezer units.
  2. Responsible for onboarding the dishwashing staff, introducing them to their duties, explaining the dishwashing machine, how it works, and maintenance and cleaning procedures. Dishwashers will check in and out with the Steward (or Chef/Sous Chef in the steward's absence).
  3. Introduce and instruct all kitchen staff on the various chemicals, their safe use and accident procedures. Ensure staff understands the proper procedures for maintaining the cleanliness of dishwashing and food preparation areas of the kitchen as well as the process of learning to put all things away in their proper place.
  4. Responsible for trash removal and recycling efforts, including the maintenance and upkeep of trash removal areas.
  5. Work with the Chef and Sous Chefs to establish standards of operation that are understandable and attainable, using all tools available, lists, charts, visual aids, etc., and in particular, imagination.

SUMMARY OF ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  1. Be familiar with inventory control and stock rotation procedures (First-in/First-Out).
  2. Must have complete knowledge and understanding of all chemicals used in the kitchen.
  3. Must be able to read and understand delivery notices and invoices.
  4. Communicate inventory issues to Executive Chef/Sous Chef.
  5. Maintain cleanliness and sanitation standards as required by the Maine Department of Health and Human Services and OSHA.
  6. Know who to notify in case of broken equipment or unsafe/unsanitary conditions.
  7. Must be able to manually handle/lift product up to 60 pounds between knee and chest. Must realize the need to ask for assistance for heavy or unwieldy loads.
  8. Must have bilateral fine manipulation of both hands which may be repetitive for the entire shift.
  9. Must be vertically mobile, possibly working in limited space for the entire shift.
  10. Protect the assets of this property and Migis Hotel Group.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  1. Must be eligible to work in the United States of America.
  2. Ability to communicate in English, both orally and written, with guests, employees, and outside vendors, some of whom will require high levels of patience, tact, and diplomacy.
  3. Ability to read and understand labels on chemicals as well as other workplace safety signage, as well as understanding safety procedures when handling trash.
  4. May be required to drive a variety of vehicles from golf carts to trucks. Must have a clean driver's license, which may be verified by our insurance company.
  5. Ability to work under pressure and deal with stressful situations during busy periods.

ABILITIES REQUIRED:

  1. Frequent walking, bending, stooping, reaching, pushing, lifting, and repetitive motions.
  2. Ability to climb ladders to reach high shelves and to perform routine maintenance.
  3. Frequent stair climbing.
  4. Working in extreme temperatures and damp conditions, both inside and out.
  5. Schedule varies according to operational needs; may include evenings, weekends, holidays; may require extended days to wait for late deliveries.
  6. Hazards include, but are not limited to, lifting injuries, cuts/scrapes from trash removal process, slips and trips, and working with cleaning products.
