Job summary

PJ Whelihan’s Pub + Restaurant in Newtown, PA is hiring an Assistant Kitchen Manager to support the Kitchen Manager in planning, organizing, and training to achieve culinary success in our kitchen. You’ll oversee food production, food quality, labor and food costs, employee hiring and retention, cleanliness and sanitation.

Reports to: Kitchen Manager. PJW Restaurant Group offers a vibrant, sports-filled atmosphere with wings, burgers and craft beers.

Qualifications

  • At least 2 years of kitchen operations experience in a full-service restaurant.
  • Some supervisory experience preferred.
  • ServSafe Certification required.
  • Ability to lead and communicate professionally to employees, management and guests.

Responsibilities

  • Achieve company objectives in food quality, food presentation, kitchen safety, sanitation and cleanliness through training of employees and creating a positive, productive working environment.
  • Ensure that all food and products are consistently prepared and served according to the restaurant’s recipes, portioning, cooking, presentation and serving standards.
  • Fully understand and comply with all federal, state, county and municipal regulations that pertain to health, safety and labor requirements of the restaurant, employees and guests.
  • Provide timely and constructive feedback and coaching to employees regarding their performance.
  • Support the KM to schedule cooks and utility workers as required by anticipated business activity while ensuring that all positions are staffed when and as needed and labor cost objectives are met.
  • Partner with the KM in making employment and termination decisions for kitchen staff.
  • Ensure that all equipment is kept clean and kept in excellent working condition through personal inspection and by following the restaurant’s preventative maintenance programs.
  • Ensure that all products are received in correct unit count and condition and deliveries are performed in accordance with the PJWRG receiving policies and procedures.

Our Assistant Kitchen Managers are instrumental in our day-to-day Back of House operations. As an Assistant Kitchen Manager with PJ’s, you’ll support the Kitchen Manager in the planning, organizing, and training necessary to achieve culinary success in our kitchen. You’ll oversee food production, food quality, labor and food costs, employee hiring and retention, cleanliness and sanitation.

  • At least 2 year of kitchen operations experience in a high-volume, full-service restaurant concept
  • Some supervisory experience preferred
  • ServSafe Certification required
  • Ability to lead and make decisions using, restaurant management guidelines
  • Ability to communicate effectively and professionally to employees, management and guests
  • Have a “can-do” attitude, initiative, and the willingness to learn and execute quickly
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and tasks
  • Possess basic computer skills and the ability to work with a scheduling, time and attendance and POS system
