Player Academy of Excellence Inc. (PLAE) seeks an Assistant Group Supervisor for elementary and middle school, part-time, 20 hours weekly.

The role is in-person at the Northeast Community Propel Academy in Philadelphia, from 3:00 PM to 5:30 PM, Monday through Friday, with occasional Saturdays. You will lead age-appropriate enrichment activities, provide academic support, and maintain a safe, engaging afterschool environment.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent required.
• Minimum of four (4) years of experience working directly with children/adolescents; afterschool/summer camp preferred.
• Proficiency with administrative systems and payroll platforms (e.g., Rippling).
• Required state and local clearances for working with youth completed prior to hire.

Responsibilities

Assistant Group Supervisor (Elementary or Middle School) | Part-Time

Position Type: Part-Time (20 hours per week)

Location: The Northeast Community Propel Academy- 7500 Rowland Avenue, Philadelphia, PA 19136

Schedule: Monday through Friday (In-Person, afterschool hours) with occasional Saturday programming

Role Overview: The PLAE Assistant Group Supervisor works directly with elementary and/or middle school students (grades K-8) to deliver a safe, nurturing, and structured afternoon environment during the Out-of-School Time (OST) program. Operating immediately following the school day until 5:30 PM, the Assistant Group Supervisor facilitates hands-on, age-appropriate enrichment, academic support, and play-based learning under the guidance of the Site Coordinator. This role assists with active daily student dismissal, maintains open communication with families, and supports the academic, social, and developmental needs of youth across elementary and middle school grades.

This position drives daily student engagement by directly leading curriculum activities—focusing on Literacy, Social Emotional Learning (SEL), Mentorship, and Sports—while upholding organizational policies, School District of Philadelphia standards, and Office of Strategic Partnerships requirements.

Direct Youth Engagement & Classroom Facilitation

• Lead and facilitate daily hands-on activities, including Project-Based Learning, STEAM projects, Literacy, Social-Emotional Learning (SEL), and Sports activities for elementary and middle school students.
• Assist students with homework completion, academic enrichment, and skill-building during designated study periods.
• Lead engaging indoor and outdoor recreational activities adapted for various seasonal and weather conditions.
• Maintain active, visual supervision of youth at all times to ensure physical safety and emotional well-being across all assigned program spaces.
• Implement and reinforce a positive behavior management plan, utilizing age-appropriate behavior techniques and restorative conflict resolution strategies.
• Create a safe, welcoming, and inclusive classroom culture that promotes teamwork, respect, and positive youth development.
• Support students in managing behaviors, navigating social dynamics, and developing strong social-emotional skills.

Operations, Logistics & Health/Safety

• Supervise daily snack distribution, ensuring proper hygiene, food handling, and clean-up procedures are followed.
• Manage group transitions smoothly and safely between classrooms, cafeteria, gymnasium, outdoor grounds, and dismissal areas.
• Chaperone and assist in managing student groups during on-site program enhancements, special assemblies, guest vendor sessions, and off-site field trips.
• Enforce all organizational, school district, and grant-mandated health and safety protocols across all activity spaces.
• Assist the Site Coordinator with accurate daily student attendance tracking and check-in/check-out procedures.

Parent & School Community Engagement

• Greet parents/guardians during afternoon pickup, providing brief, positive updates on student participation and behavior.
• Support the setup, execution, and student participation during monthly themed Parent Nights and special family showcases.
• Act as a positive representative of the OST program when interacting with school personnel, custodial staff, and community partners.
• Collaborate with the Site Coordinator and fellow program staff to prepare weekly lesson plans, gather materials, and organize classroom spaces prior to student arrival.
• Attend all mandatory staff meetings, site team check-ins, and ongoing professional development workshops/trainings.
• Maintain open communication with the Site Coordinator regarding student updates, safety concerns, or supply needs.

Curriculum & Physical Activity Facilitation: Proficiency in delivering hands-on, engaging activities across Literacy, STEAM, Social-Emotional Learning (SEL), Sports, and Project-Base Learning. Physically active approach to leading and directly participating in movement, sports, and recreational play with students after school.

Child Safety & Supervision: High level of alertness and stamina to maintain visual supervision during fast-paced physical movement, manage safe group transitions, and follow health and safety protocols across all indoor and outdoor program spaces.

Communication & Rapport: Excellent interpersonal skills to build trust with young students through enthusiastic, positive interactions, maintain professional contact with parents/guardians during pickup, and collaborate effectively with school staff.

Adaptability & Teamwork: Ability to follow direction from the Site Coordinator, adapt high-energy outdoor and indoor activities based on weather or space changes, and work collaboratively as a supportive, energetic team player.

Organization & Attendance Tracking: Strong attention to detail for managing daily sign-in/sign-out rosters, snack distribution logistics, and equipment setup/cleanup for active programming.

Candidate Qualifications:

Education: High School Diploma or equivalent required.

Experience: Minimum of four (4) years of experience working directly with children and/or adolescents (experience in an afterschool, summer camp, or high school setting preferred). Strong familiarity with School District of Philadelphia environments, grant-funded youth programming, or community outreach preferred.

Proficiency with administrative systems, program data tracking, and payroll platforms (e.g., Rippling).

Required state and local background clearances for working with youth must be completed prior to hire.

Physical requirements: Ability to stand/walk for extended periods (e.g., during student supervision), lift up to 25–50 lbs (setting up equipment/supplies), bend, reach, and lead physical activities/sports.

Environmental conditions: Ability to work both indoors (classrooms, gymnasium, cafeteria) and outdoors in varying weather conditions.
