Assistant Teacher/Assistant Group Supervisor
POSITION SUMMARY:
This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility. It provides direction for children in the classroom and implements program curriculum. The role aims to deliver a quality experience to children and parents, focusing on building achievement, belonging, and positive relationships among youth and within families.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
1. Implements purposeful programming and curriculum within established guidelines, prepared in advance of each activity.
2. Supervises children, the classroom, and all activities, including ADA accommodations where appropriate, following all procedures and standards.
3. Guides children in developmentally appropriate play and routines.
4. Conducts ongoing observations and evaluations of each child to provide feedback and create activities tailored to individual and group needs.
5. Provides positive, descriptive feedback to prevent and redirect challenging behaviors.
6. Builds positive relationships, conducts parent conferences, maintains effective communication, engages parents as volunteers, and connects them to the YMCA.
7. Maintains the program site and equipment according to standards.
8. Ensures a safe, healthy environment, knowledgeable in safety/emergency procedures, infection control, and proper hand washing.
9. Maintains required program records.
10. Completes and maintains required trainings to comply with licensing, standards, and policies.
11. Attends and participates in family nights, program activities, staff meetings, and training.
12. Communicates effectively with supervisor and co-workers for program improvement and concerns.
13. Reports suspected abuse per PA Child Protective Services Law and YMCA policy.
14. Performs other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:
As per Department of Human Services, an Assistant Group Supervisor shall have one of the following qualifications:
1. High school diploma or GED and 30 college credits in early childhood education, child development, special education, or human services.
2. High school diploma or GED, including 600+ hours of secondary training as per section 3270.31(c).
3. High school diploma or GED, 15 college credits in relevant fields, and 1 year of documented experience with children.
4. High school diploma or GED, completion of a post-secondary training curriculum as per section 3270.31(c).
5. High school diploma or GED and 2 years of documented experience with children.
And,
6. Obtain State Police, Child Abuse, NSOR, FBI certifications, negative Mantoux TB test, and a physical.
7. Obtain Mandated Reporter training certification.
8. Must have or obtain Pediatric First Aid/CPR and AED certification.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Light exertion up to 20 pounds of force occasionally; body movements vary with activity.
Visual requirements include good color, depth, and field of vision.
Auditory requirements include ability to hear and understand speech and sounds.
Hazardous conditions include frequent outdoor exposure and potential contact with bodily fluids/blood.
