The assistant superintendent supervises employees across all phases of golf course maintenance, including greens, tees, roughs, and peripheral areas. They manage daily course preparations for member/guest and tournament play, assist in personnel management, evaluation, employee safety, discipline, and are often responsible for daily work scheduling based on professional interpretation. They instruct and train employees on equipment operation and care, supervise pesticide applications, and operate and calibrate application equipment. They oversee repairs, schedule watering, and supervise maintenance of irrigation systems and pump stations.
The assistant superintendent may serve as the superintendent in their absence and is responsible for quality control, employee scheduling, safety and operational training, documentation, time and labor reporting, pesticide and fertilizer application and calibration, irrigation scheduling, troubleshooting, repair, employee motivation, winter plow duties, and other assigned tasks.
