Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or AA or equivalent from a two or four year college or technical school.
  • A minimum of 3 years related experience and/or training, or a combination of education and experience.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the preparation of the annual budget and oversee expenditure within approved guidelines.
  • Assist in formulation and administration of annual agronomical maintenance programs for greens, tees, fairways and roughs.
  • Supervise storage, handling and application of all fertilizers and pesticides per laws and safety regulations.
  • Act in the capacity of the Superintendent in the absence of the Superintendent.
  • May be required to drive POA or personal vehicle for POA business.
  • Inspect golf course regularly to assure surface quality for all golfers.
  • Regular attendance is required.

SUMMARY

Appointed by the Golf Course Superintendent and approved by the Director of Golf. Assist the Superintendent in the supervision of golf course personnel in all golf course maintenance operations. Requires valid Arkansas driver's license and clean driving record with proof of liability insurance.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. 1. Train golf course personnel relative to golf course maintenance equipment usage, techniques and conduct.
  2. 2. Assist the Superintendent in the preparation of the annual budget and help oversee the expenditure of funds within the guidelines of the approved budget and policy.
  3. 3. Assist the Superintendent in the formulation and administration of annual agronomical maintenance programs for golf course greens, tees, fairways and roughs.
  4. 4. Assist with the supervision of storage, handling and application of all fertilizers and pesticides in accordance with local, state and federal laws and regulations. Enforce compliance with all safety regulations.
  5. 5. Act in the capacity of the Superintendent in the absence of the Superintendent.
  6. 7. May be required to drive POA vehicle or personal vehicle while conducting POA business.
  7. 8. Inspect golf course regularly to assure quality of surfaces for all golfers.
  8. 9. Regular attendance is required.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

Supervise personnel of golf course maintenance operations.

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

Bachelor's degree, Associates degree(AA) or equivalent from a two or four year college or technical school. A minimum of 3 years related experience and or training, or a combination of education and experience.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read a limited number of two- and three-syllable words and to recognize similarities and differences between words and between series of numbers. Ability to print and speak simple sentences.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to add and subtract two digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10's and 100's. Ability to perform these operations using units of American money and weight measurement, volume, and distance.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out simple one- or two-step instructions. Ability to deal with standardized situations with only occasional or no variables.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

Requires a valid Arkansas driver's license and clean driving record with proof of liability insurance. Must acquire an Arkansas Pesticide Applicators Certificate for Golf Course Pest Control within six (6) months of attaining assistant Superintendent status.
