Overview:
The Assistant Golf Course Superintendent assists in planning, coordinating, and executing the golf course maintenance program.
Essential Duties:
- Assists the 1st AGCS in conducting morning crew meetings and is responsible for utilizing the assignment board to schedule, assign, and direct golf course maintenance staff for daily tasks and special projects.
- Works with the 1st AGCS for daily assessment of the golf course, including presentation, course preparation, quality of play, and hand watering needs.
- Trains employees in normal golf course operations, including the safe and efficient use of all equipment involved.
- Supervises and trains crew during special projects and daily maintenance, including weekend scheduling.
- Conducts or supervises special equipment operation and project management (e.g., aeration, topdressing, fertilizing).
- Performs fertilizer and chemical applications, including record keeping.
- Assists the Irrigation Specialist with the operation of the irrigation system, including proper operation of pump stations and repairs to delivery systems.
- Collaborates with the golf shop to ensure proper daily operations, tournament preparation, direction of play, maintenance procedures, and addressing member comments.
- Participates in snow removal activities, including scheduling, procedures, cleanup, and implementation.
- Physical ability to sit, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, and lift up to 50 pounds.
Minimum Requirements:
- 2 or 4-year degree in turf management or agronomy.
- At least 3 years of golf course experience.
- Understanding of golf game and preparation techniques.
- Ability to supervise and schedule maintenance staff.
- Experience with golf course equipment operation and training.
- Valid driver’s license.
- Desire to learn continuously and act strategically.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Good verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to adapt to changing priorities in the work environment.
