Job summary

Transdev North America seeks an Assistant General Manager to lead the Boston Public Schools transportation contract. The role directs operations and programs, ensuring on-time performance, budgeting accuracy, and collaborative liaison with supervisors and dispatch staff.

Responsibilities include supervising drivers, dispatchers, and maintenance coordination, delivering daily reports, and maintaining strong customer service and safety standards within a unionized environment.

Qualifications

  • A high school diploma or equivalent (G.E.D.) required.
  • A bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • A minimum of 5 years of management experience or a minimum of 2 years of passenger transportation management experience.
  • Excellent communication & customer service skills.
  • Must be able to work shifts or flexible work schedules as needed.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of public management and organization theories, principles, practices and techniques.
  • Thorough knowledge of the methods of operation of the transit system’s staff and operational departments.
  • Subject to a DOT drug testing and physical if applicable.

Responsibilities

  • Supervises daily activities of all operators and coordinates the activities of supervisors and dispatch personnel.
  • Oversees scheduling of Drivers, Dispatchers and Supervisors.
  • Monitors operations and coordinates delivery of service with the Branch General Manager, Operations Manager and Area Genal Manager; and provides daily reports.
  • Monitors Key Performance Indicators (KPI) and reports variance to the location General Manager.
  • Monitors department budgeted regular and exception time hours and reports variances to the location General Manager.
  • Responsible for On-Time Performance and timely yard departures.
  • Works closely with the Maintenance Department to ensure adequate availability of equipment.
  • Track, compile and analyze performance standards related to On Time Performance, Complaints, Missed Service, and other operational standards.
  • Handle interdepartmental issues; assists in the resolution of employee issues and grievances; improve processes and route scheduling.
  • Maintains confidentiality of all information.
  • Interact with the union representing the employees with the goal of positive interaction.
  • Other duties as required

Physical Requirements

The essential functions of this position require the ability to:

  • 100% of the job is accomplished indoors and in air conditioned or well-ventilated facilities
  • Sit, type and look at a computer screen for extended periods (up to 6–8 hours per day)
  • Push and pull objects up to 50 pounds, occasionally throughout the workday; lift material weighing up to 50 lbs. with or without assistance; occasionally bend, kneel, or crouch to files or equipment stored at ground level
