Position Purpose and Summary

The Assistant General Manager (AGM) assists the General Manager (GM) or Multi‑Unit General Manager (MUGM) in managing day‑to‑day hotel operations, ensuring optimum performance and continual improvement in guest and associate satisfaction. The AGM is hands‑on with hourly staff, including scheduling, directing, overseeing daily activities, and training. The AGM provides leadership to promote an exceptional workplace and ensures safety and security procedures are in place in accordance with company guidelines and standards.

Major / Key Job Duties
  • Demonstrate and promote a 100% commitment to providing the best possible experience for our guests.
  • Become trained in all managerial functions and operations at the hotel level.
  • Ensure all associates are properly onboarded, trained, and complete ESU required training in a timely manner.
  • Promote compliance with company policies and procedures, including prompt reporting of all safety and security issues directly to the manager or appropriate authorities.
  • Uphold and drive compliance with policies, rules, and standards (including safety and security guidelines) at the property level.
  • Ensure associates drive company initiatives to increase revenue, lower costs, and improve guest and associate satisfaction.
  • Serve as first level management contact for guest service issues, resolve them timely, and determine whether to escalate to GM/MUGM as needed.
  • Demonstrate professionalism, embrace ESA’s service culture, and treat all guests and associates with respect and kindness.
  • Interact daily with guests to identify quality lead generation and assist them with future travel needs.
  • Assist in maximizing revenues and flow through to GOP to meet or exceed budgeted EBITDA.
Other Duties
  • Assist the GM/MUGM with interviewing, onboarding, and training new associates.
  • Directly supervise and involve all associates to promote a positive work environment through teamwork, energy, enthusiasm, and recognition.
  • Actively participate in daily team meetings and interactions with staff to foster continuous improvement, guidance, encouragement, and corrective action when necessary.
  • Assist the GM in budgetary control measures, including labor monitoring, scheduling, room expense control, and maintaining PAR levels through Daily Visual Management.
  • Ensure associates have the necessary tools to execute their jobs on an ongoing basis.
  • Serve as manager on duty in the absence of the GM/MUGM.
  • Inspect guest rooms.
  • Complete Guest Ready visual inspections and assign daily arrival reservations.
  • Provide relief or back‑up duties as needed at the hotel, including front desk coverage, housekeeping, and other duties to ensure optimum operation.
  • Manage the purchase order process, ordering and receiving products in a timely manner.
  • Assist GM/MUGM in monitoring cash management, in‑house guest balances, and direct bill receivables compliance.
  • Assist with hotel sales activities when needed, including Soar leads.
  • Actively review and monitor social media websites to ensure timely and appropriate responses.
  • Ensure that clean rooms, guest satisfaction, and associate satisfaction remain top priorities.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities & Competencies
  • Comprehend fundamental instructions, write short correspondence and memos. Solid fluency in English for reading, writing, and verbal communication to effectively communicate with guests, associates, and outside vendors.
  • Operate the property management system technology, including all shift reports and audit functions when necessary.
  • Apply basic arithmetic skills—addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division—using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  • Apply common sense to carry out detailed written and/or oral instructions.
  • Supervisory skills to oversee daily activities of 8 to 15 hourly staff.
  • Organize multiple priorities to ensure that daily operations are performed at peak efficiency.
Environmental Job Requirements
  • Regularly remain stationary; navigate the hotel and parking lot; reach, handle, and detect tools, objects, and controls; and detect scent and sounds.
  • Occasionally bend, kneel, or crouch.
  • Occasionally push, pull, lift, and/or move up to 25 pounds.
  • Frequently work in outside weather conditions (depending on the hotel).
  • Occasionally work in wet, humid conditions near moving mechanical parts, in the presence of fumes or airborne particles and toxic or caustic chemicals, and risk of electrical shock.
  • Work environment typically at moderate to loud noise levels.
  • May be asked to travel to help additional locations within a reasonable geography, or to cover additional sites during another manager's absence.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Prior hotel experience in a hospitality or retail establishment is required.
  • High School Diploma or GED; or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Prior supervisory experience is preferred.
  • Demonstrated leadership ability is desired.
  • Some job‑related college‑level courses preferred.
