Position Summary
The Assistant General Manager supports the General Manager by providing leadership and oversight for manufacturing operations and executing the Division’s operating priorities. The role is accountable for achieving safe, stable, high-quality, and efficient production while meeting customer expectations for quality and delivery.
The Assistant General Manager translates the Division’s business strategy into operational priorities, establishes accountability for results, and works closely with functional leaders to improve manufacturing performance. The position requires strong operational judgment, a proactive and decisive leadership approach, and a commitment to continuous improvement, employee development, and Magna’s Culture and Core Values.
The ideal candidate is highly mobile and willing to relocate to various division locations across the United States.
Key Responsibilities
- Champion a safe and healthy workplace and ensure compliance with applicable environmental, health and safety requirements.

- Lead assigned manufacturing operations to achieve safety, quality, production, delivery, cost, efficiency, and productivity objectives.
- Translate Division strategies and business priorities into clear operational goals, actions, and performance expectations.
- Monitor key performance indicators and ensure timely corrective actions are implemented when performance does not meet established targets.
- Establish operating discipline and accountability across assigned departments, including adherence to production plans, operating standards, equipment effectiveness targets, and manufacturing processes.
- Provide direction, resources, and support to operational teams while removing barriers that may prevent the achievement of results.
- Promote a culture of operational excellence, continuous improvement, innovation, and effective problem-solving to drive improvements across all operational metrics.
- Support the evaluation and implementation of manufacturing technologies, processes, and work methods that improve safety, quality, efficiency, and competitiveness.
- Ensure customer issues are addressed promptly through effective containment, root-cause analysis, corrective action, and sustained follow-up.
- Ensure manufacturing readiness, production ramp-up, and operational execution for new product launches and engineering changes, ensuring launch activities are supported by appropriate staffing, equipment, processes, training, quality controls, capacity planning, and contingency actions.
- Create a highly engaged, accountable, collaborative, and performance-oriented work environment.
- Lead, coach, mentor, and develop leaders and teams.
- Strengthen leadership capability and organizational depth within the organization.
- Communicate regularly with employees regarding operational priorities, performance, changes, and workplace matters.
- Perform other duties consistent with the scope of the position as assigned by the General Manager.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Business, Operations Management, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education, formal training, and directly related experience.
- Minimum eight years of progressively responsible leadership experience within the automotive industry, preferably in a Tier 1 supplier.
- Experience overseeing Maintenance, Quality, Logistics and other related manufacturing functions is required; while Paint and Injection Molding experience is preferred.
- Strong knowledge of lean manufacturing, continuous improvement, structured problem-solving, operational performance management, and quality systems.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively with employees, customers, suppliers, senior leaders, and cross-functional teams.
- Strong organizational, analytical, coaching, mentoring, problem-solving, decision-making, and change-leadership capabilities.
- Ability to operate with urgency, manage competing priorities, and meet demanding deadlines.
- Fluent proficiency in English and any additional language capabilities required by the Division.
- Highly mobile and willing to relocate to various division locations across the United States.
Physical Demands & Work Environment:
- Ability to work in manufacturing environments, including standing for extended periods, climbing stairs, and wearing PPE such as respirators.
- Ability to perform work while standing or walking for a minimum of 8 hours daily.
- Capable of lifting up to 35 lbs occasionally.
- Flexibility to travel as required
