Job summary

MERS Missouri Goodwill is seeking an Assistant General Manager for our Kansas City - Midtown store to oversee operations, manage staff, and deliver exceptional donor and shopper services. The role emphasizes leadership, safety, and quality in a mission-driven environment.

The position offers an hourly full-time schedule, a starting rate of $22.50 per hour, and a monthly bonus potential up to $500, along with comprehensive benefits for eligible employees.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma/GED required; some college preferred.
• One year of Management experience; previous Goodwill Retail/Warehouse experience preferred.
• Valid MO or IL driver’s license and insurance.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, including customer service, conflict resolution, and teamwork.
• Leadership skills include decision-making, goal-setting, and the ability to motivate and lead employees.

Responsibilities

• Assist Store Manager in overseeing store operations, resources, and budgets to meet goals.
• Model core values and uphold safety, ethics, and quality within the store.
• Supervise, direct, and train assigned staff.
• Provide superior customer service to ensure donor/ shopper satisfaction and retention.
• Coach employees on performance, including discipline up to termination.
• Assign daily job duties; identify employees for advancement.
• Protect company property and report theft or misconduct.
• Read, follow, and enforce agency policies and values.
• Utilize staffing methods to ensure proper coverage; coordinate replacements when needed.
• Audit, edit, and approve payroll; drive process improvements.
• Maintain professional appearance per dress code.

Qualifications

Primary Duties/Responsibilities

• Assists Store Manager in overseeing store operations, resources, and budgets to ensure all goals and benchmarks are met or exceeded.
• Model core values to uphold a culture with an understanding and commitment to safety, ethics, and quality within the store.
• Supervise, direct, and train assigned staff and ensure they perform their essential/primary functions.
• Provide superior internal and external customer service to ensure repeat donors, shoppers, and staff retention and de-escalate customer dissatisfaction quickly and effectively.
• Coach and counsel employees about the performance of their job duties, including discipline up to and including termination.
• Exercise independent judgment in assigning daily job duties to achieve daily operational tasks.
• Helps to identify and recommend employees with proven performance for advancement.
• Safeguards company property and personal information from harm, damage, or theft. Reports any theft, misappropriation, unethical/inappropriate behavior, or unauthorized possession of company property to a member of management, Human Resources, or Loss Prevention.
• Must read, follow, model, and enforce all agency policies, procedures, and values.
• Utilizes efficient staffing methods to ensure the store is staffed appropriately. Arranges for replacements of absent employees when necessary. Audits, edits, and approves payroll.
• Eliminates wasteful practices through process improvement.
• Maintains a professional appearance, adhering to MERS Goodwill's dress code.
• Other duties as assigned.
• Monthly Bonus up to $500.00
• Immediate date of hire individual and family medical benefits for full-time employees working 30 or more hours per week.
• Individual and family dental and vision benefits on the first of the month following the hire date for employees working 20 or more hours week.
• Voluntary Life and AD&D Insurance on the first of the month following the hire date for employees working 20 or more hours per week.
• 403(B) Retirement on date of hire for employees working 20 or more hours per week.
