Job summary

Buffalo Wild Wings is seeking an Assistant General Manager (AGM) to lead a busy sports bar, manage Shift Managers, servers, bartenders and service assistants, and drive guest satisfaction. You will oversee safety, training, and retention, ensuring high standards across service areas and wine/beer program adherence.

The AGM will balance labor, cost controls, and performance metrics while maintaining compliance with health and safety regulations.

Qualifications

• Education: High School or equivalent; restaurant management coursework preferred.
• 4+ years in restaurant management or equivalent Buffalo Wild Wings experience.
• Valid food handlers and alcohol dispensing certifications (if required by law).

Responsibilities

• Manages the operation of the sports bar, conducting effective Zone Management throughout each shift.
• Provides support to team members and managers and adds energy to each area of the sports bar.
• Interviews, hires, onboards, trains, develops and retains team members, with specific responsibility for Shift Managers, Servers, Service Assistants and Bartenders.
• Diligently follows and enforces food and general safety requirements and models behavior that protects them and others.
• Mentors, coaches and counsels team member and Shift Manager behaviors. Disciplines and terminates team members as needed.
• Interacts with guests in the dining room and the bar, makes personal connections and seeks specific feedback about their experience.
• Responsible for ensuring the completion of responsible alcohol service (RAS) training and that all RAS standards are properly executed every shift.
• Manages service execution (guest service, safety and efficiency) as well as the overall Server, Service Assistant, Bartender and Shift Manager labor performance.

POSITION PURPOSE

The Assistant General Manager (AGM) position creates legendary experiences for guests and team members through the management of Shift Managers (primary job code), Servers, Bartenders, Service Assistants and assumes full responsibility for the sports bar in the General Manager’s (GM) absence. The AGM is directly accountable for all guest related metrics for Servers/Bartenders and focuses on overall improvement of guest engagement tactics.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Bar Cost of Sales and variances
  • Oversees effective and efficient scheduling of labor for Servers, Service Assistants, Bartenders and Shift Managers
  • Responsible for Overall Satisfaction (OSAT) and other guest feedback metrics related to FOH service
• Directly responsible for adherence, execution and coaching of the current service model
• Supports the management of Cost of Sales (COS), Comps Voids and Discounts (CVDs) and labor related costs for FOH
• Ensures the execution of training programs and ensures compliance for direct reports on all training and certification requirements
• Handles team members’ complaints or concerns by actively listening, involving the necessary individuals, investigating and resolving where appropriate
• Ensures compliance with all local, state and federal laws
• Responsible for loyalty program execution and results
• Assists the GM in overseeing overall sports bar performance and sales building initiatives
• Responsible for all activation rollouts and introductions of new products, tools and services
• Creates and executes strategic plans for overall guest service based off feedback reports
• Supports GM with Certified Trainer selections in area of responsibility and training program execution
• Conducts pre and post shift meetings
• Completes all manager tools on time and with integrity
• Manages the balance of labor hours and service efficiency during their shift to meet labor guidelines without sacrificing guest service
• Conducts scheduled performance appraisals for direct reports
• Stays current on all federal, state, local and company required training and certifications, such as responsible alcohol service and food safety
• Other duties as assigned

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS

• General knowledge of labor laws, health codes, safe food handling and sanitation, responsible alcohol service, safety and security systems and procedures and computer operations
• Strong people management and communication and interpersonal skills
• Superior guest service and hospitality skills
• Skill in time management and organization with attention to detail
• Self-motivated and a passion for teaching others
• Ability to read and comprehend written materials and perform basic to intermediate mathematical computations

Requirements

• Education: High School or equivalent. Coursework in restaurant management preferred.
• 4 plus years prior professional experience in restaurant management required, or equivalent BWW experience.
• Must possess proper food handlers and alcohol dispensing certifications (if required by law).
• Valid driver's license.
• Periodic travel to management meetings an annual convention and training as needed.
• Knowledge of labor laws, health codes, safe food handling and sanitation, responsible alcohol service, safety and security systems and procedures, computer operations.
• Good people management skills, communication, and listening skills. Must be flexible and adaptable to change.
• Demonstrated time management and organizational skills.
• Must be self-motivated, detail-oriented, and have a passion for teaching others.
• Must be able to work a flexible schedule including days, nights, weekends, and holidays.

The physical demands for this position require the individual to sit, stand, bend, lift up to 50 pounds, and move intermittently during working hours.
