Skills and Competencies:
  • Approximately 10-15 years of relevant experience focusing on US regulatory matters at a leading law firm, US governmental agency such as the DOJ or SEC, and/or as in-house corporate counsel
  • Strong technical skill with extensive knowledge of SEC regulation and other financial services regulation
  • Experience with credit rating agencies (CRAs) or CRA regulation is highly beneficial
  • Experience with Canadian regulation or other international financial services regulation is a plus
  • Experience working in an international environment with globally distributed teams and diverse individuals
  • Highly motivated, intellectually curious, with a willingness to learn and adapt
  • Demonstrate business acumen and a strong work ethic with practical, client-focused solutions
  • Collaborative team player with strong interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work under pressure, multitask, and prioritize effectively

Responsibilities:

The Assistant General Counsel will provide Moody's Ratings with timely, practical, and balanced legal advice to help manage risk, focusing on US and Canada regulatory matters.

  • Interpret CRA regulations and advise on implementation, policies, and procedures.
  • Advise on regulatory inquiries, information requests, examinations, interviews, and inspections.
  • Assist with regulatory reporting, disclosure, and filing requirements.
  • Support Moody's Ratings' internal controls and governance frameworks.
  • Collaborate with the Risk Management team on legal risk metrics and initiatives.
  • Support policy initiatives with Moody's Government, Public & Regulatory Affairs team.
  • Advise on insider trading, competition, and antitrust laws.
  • Address errors and corrections in Moody's Ratings processes.
  • Provide legal interpretation on operational resilience, outsourcing, and third-party risk management.
  • Participate in Moody's Ratings business committees for regulatory advice.
  • Coordinate with the Litigation, Employment & Government Investigations team on enforcement actions, litigation, and investigations.

For US-based roles, the salary range is $198,300 to $287,550, depending on experience, education, skills, and location. The role includes incentive compensation and a comprehensive benefits package.
