Job summary

Honeywell is seeking an Assistant General Counsel to lead sanctions and AML compliance, advising on licenses and regulatory strategy across the company. The role partners with Export, AML, and CFIUS teams to support growth and compliance.

Based in Washington, DC or Charlotte, NC, it offers a hybrid schedule and opportunities to work on high-impact regulatory initiatives within a global technology firm.

Qualifications

• Juris Doctor (JD) degree required.
• Minimum 6 years’ experience in a law department, preferably in a multinational company, law firm or government agency.
• Significant experience in trade regulations, including U.S. sanctions laws and AML regulations.
• Knowledge of Compliance IT and digital systems (including ERP software systems, SAP, GTS, Salesforce, etc.).
• Excellent communication skills and strong ethics.

Responsibilities

Reporting directly to the Vice President and General Counsel, Regulatory, the Assistant General Counsel will be a trusted partner and key advisor for our Sanctions Compliance program’s compliance with sanctions regulations of the United States (Office of Foreign Assets Control (“OFAC”) and other agencies) and maintaining an effective sanctions compliance program throughout the Company. They will advise on business strategy, in addition to the calibration of integrated compliance systems and digital tools to support and guide the businesses on how to best grow our product portfolios internationally. This role will also be a partner to Honeywell’s Export, Anti-Money Laundering (“AML”), and CFIUS teams

You will work out of our Washington, DC or Charlotte, NC office on a hybrid schedule.

Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities

• Proactively identify, evaluate, and manage sanctions and AML risks in a way that enables the organization to deliver sustainable business growth;
• Provide advice and direction relating to higher risk transactions from a sanctions or AML perspective, including, as appropriate, advising on and shepherding the preparation and submission of higher risk licenses necessary for the operation of the business and maintenance of an effective compliance program;
• Advise on and enhance trade controls, including policies and procedures as well as screening protocols, to support risk management and compliant business (and ensure alignment with regulatory requirements;
• Stay updated on trade laws, regulations, designations, and other related regulatory announcements, assess and calibrate program response, and communicate business impacts;
• Exercise strong leadership, collaboration, and execution skills with project teams, outside vendors (including outside counsel) and consultants;
• Assist in testing and audits of the sanctions and AML compliance program and in periodic risk assessments to identify improvement opportunities and potential solutions;
• Assist in developing and providing trainings on sanctions and AML compliance issues for all internal stakeholders; and
• Support investigations into sanctions and AML compliance matters.

We Value

• Experience in any of the following sectors: oil and gas, electronics, life sciences, and defense sectors
• While the role focuses on U.S. sanctions and AML regulations, familiarity with UK and EU sanctions laws is strongly preferred
• Sanctions and AML certifications, like CSS, CGSS, CAMS, etc.
• Strong initiative and drive for results
• Ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects, involving several stakeholders, while setting and delivering on strict timelines
• Ability to influence at varying levels of the organization

The annual base salary range for this position is $220,000-274,000. Please note that this salary information serves as a general guideline. Honeywell considers various factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to the scope and responsibilities of the position, the candidate's work experience, education and training, key skills, as well as market and business considerations.
