Job summary

Illinois Institute of Technology’s Office of General Counsel (OGC) is seeking an Assistant General Counsel to provide legal advice and representation to the University across employment, faculty matters, student affairs and policy review.

The role requires an independent, entrepreneurial mindset with the ability to manage multiple projects, train stakeholders, and support compliance with FERPA, Title IX, Title VII, and other regulatory frameworks.

Qualifications

• Juris Doctor from ABA-accredited U.S. law school.
• Five (5) years of progressive responsibility and experience practicing law.
• Experience with governmental agencies/compliance boards is strongly desired.
• Experience in higher education law is preferred.
• Licensed to practice law in Illinois in good standing (or ability to obtain licensure promptly after date of hire).
• Outstanding writing, verbal, interpersonal and research skills.

Responsibilities

• Provide legal advice and representation to the University on employment, labor, student matters and policy review.
• Conduct legal research, prepare motions, and prepare witnesses for depositions and trial as needed.
• Advise on staff and faculty employment matters and compliance with workplace laws/regulations.
• Represent the University before courts and regulatory agencies (EEOC, DOL, OSHA, etc.).
• Support training of HR and University leadership on regulatory requirements.
