Job summary

WVU Medicine is looking for a qualified attorney to manage contracts and provide legal guidance within the organization. The ideal candidate will have at least three years of substantial experience in a law firm or in-house legal environment focusing on corporate, contract, and regulatory law.

The attorney will prepare and negotiate contracts, advise on compliance matters, and lead training for contracting staff. This role offers a dynamic work environment in Morgantown, West Virginia.

Qualifications

Required Experience
  • Three (3) years of substantial experience in a law firm or in‑house legal department in the areas of corporate, contract, and regulatory law.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in contract drafting, review and negotiation; group purchasing organizations and/or procurement; Medicare Fraud and Abuse and Stark laws.
Core Duties and Responsibilities
  • Prepares, reviews, and assists with negotiating contracts for the Organization, including, but not limited to, group purchasing organization (GPO) agreements.
  • Prepares, reviews, and assists with negotiating procurement-related agreements, including but not limited to purchase and sale, product purchase, consignment, rebate, consulting, information technology, and other miscellaneous agreements.
  • Provides regular legal guidance and advice to the Organizations’ management team on a wide variety of legal matters related to procurement matters and various health care joint ventures of the Organizations, including compliance with fraud and abuse and Stark laws.
  • Provides day‑to‑day advice to management and personnel regarding contracts and regulatory obligations for the Organizations’ group purchasing organization.
  • Is knowledgeable of legal trends and standards which regulate health care facilities and patient care and works to ensure compliance with these standards.
  • Provides advice regarding compliance with Medicare and Medicaid fraud and abuse, Stark, and tax exemption.
  • Develops and provides education and training programs to the Organizations’ contracting agents on key purchasing and contracting negotiation points and legal topics.
  • Develops policies and procedures for the agreement submission and review process and drafts template agreements and updates for the supply chain operations.
  • Responds in a timely manner to requests for advice or information.
  • Prepares and reviews contracts and/or agreements between the Organizations and outside agencies or organizations.
  • Demonstrates regard for the dignity, respect, and safety of all patients, family members, visitors, and personnel as defined in the philosophy of such organizations.
  • Displays a caring and courteous attitude and represents such organizations in a positive manner to all persons 100% of the time.
  • Maintains the confidentiality of patient and department information 100% of the time.
  • Promotes and contributes positively to intradepartmental and interdepartmental relationships.
  • Adheres to applicable dress codes as observed by supervision.

  • Maintains proper attendance and punctuality to ensure that such organizations are operated in an efficient and cost‑effective manner.
  • Maintains proper attendance and reports to work on time in accordance with applicable policies.
  • Provides adequate notice to supervisory personnel prior to absence or tardiness in accordance with applicable policies.
  • Participates in meeting the goals and objectives of the department to ensure that the department contributes to the attainment of such Organizations’ goals and objectives.
  • Promotes and contributes positively to the teamwork of the department by volunteering to assist co‑workers, contributing ideas and problem solving with coworkers.
  • Participates in planning and implementing change and maintaining and improving productivity through attendance and participation in staff meetings, task forces, projects, and discussions.
  • Diligently and in a responsible and timely manner pursues and addresses legal needs of such Organizations as they arise.
