About the team + role

We are building an elite team, applying frontier technologies to the world’s biggest financial problems. We’re looking for bold thinkers. Sharp problem-solvers. Builders who are wired to make an impact. Robinhood isn’t a place for complacency, it’s where ambitious people do the best work of their careers. We’re a high-performing, fast-moving team with ethics at the center of everything we do. Expectations are high, and so are the rewards.

The Robinhood Legal team’s mission is to provide strategic, forward-looking, and comprehensive legal guidance across the entire company, enabling the safe and compliant expansion of our innovative financial offerings. We bridge the gap between complex financial regulations and cutting-edge product engineering to protect our customers, support our business growth, and maintain corporate integrity.

We are looking for an experienced and innovative credit attorney to join our product and regulatory counsel team as an Assistant General Counsel, reporting to the Director and Associate General Counsel, Derivatives, Banking, and IP at Robinhood.

As an Assistant General Counsel, Credit Cards, you will serve as the primary legal architect and product counsel for our credit ecosystem, guiding multi-functional teams from ideation through launch. You will manage regulatory compliance, craft robust consumer agreements, and directly shape the future of our retail credit card and consumer banking initiatives! In this role, you’ll partner directly with our product, engineering, and compliance teams on consumer credit and consumer banking-related product launches! The successful candidate will be an engaged and resourceful self-starter, comfortable working in a fast-paced environment, and excellent at building strong relationships. This is an exciting opportunity to join a growing company and add to our mission to democratize finance for all!

This role is based in our Menlo Park, CA, New York, NY, or Washington, DC office(s), with in-person attendance expected at least 3 days per week.

At Robinhood, we believe in the power of in-person work to accelerate progress, spark innovation, and strengthen community. Our office experience is intentional, energizing, and designed to fully support high-performing teams.

What you’ll do
  • Provide end-to-end counseling on a range of retail products, including those that touch upon payments, credit cards, and banking-related products and services, working with colleagues and cross-functional stakeholders across the company
  • Respond promptly to a wide range of complex legal requests and coordinate closely with your team and outside counsel to deliver practical, timely, and high-quality advice
  • Identify and assess business and legal risks, and find creative ways to mitigate them while achieving product goals
  • Ensure compliance with applicable laws and regulations
  • Advise on, review, and draft consumer agreements in support of new products
  • Develop trusted relationships to facilitate a coordinated team approach to launching new products and features
  • Be a business partner, and think like a proactive product owner, not just a legal advisor
  • Pitch in on legal work across the team whenever needed
What you bring
  • J.D. degree from an ABA-accredited law school (or foreign equivalent)
  • Membership in at least 1 U.S. State Bar, with good standing
  • 7+ years of relevant work experience across a law firm, government agency, or a fast-paced technology, financial services, banking, lending, payments, or fintech company
  • Well-developed knowledge and experience with consumer lending products, including credit cards and applicable federal consumer financial protection laws such as the Truth in Lending Act, the Equal Opportunity Credit Act, the Fair Credit Reporting Act, and the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act
  • Deep understanding of consumer banking products, including deposit accounts and applicable federal consumer financial protection laws such as the Expedited Funds Availability Act, the Truth in Savings Act, and the Electronic Fund Transfer Act
  • Experience working with the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau and its rules and regulations
  • Advanced expertise with payments industry legal issues and applicable compliance requirements and regulations, including NACHA Rules, card network rules, Bank Secrecy Act / anti-money laundering rules, and state money transmission services regulation
  • Experience supporting the rollout of retail-based customer products and services
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to communicate information effectively to non-legal audiences and drive cross‑functional alignment
  • An execution-oriented mindset with the agility, drive, and creativity to deliver results
What we offer
  • Challenging, high-impact work to grow your career.
  • Performance‑driven compensation with multipliers for outsized impact, bonus programs, equity ownership, and 401(k) matching.
