Job summary

Warby Parker is seeking an Assistant General Counsel (Finance) to act as the primary legal partner for product, technology, and brand teams. You will counsel on product launches, marketing campaigns, partnerships, IP matters, and technology agreements.

You will also address privacy and data practices for marketing tech, work on healthcare data matters, and help craft templates and playbooks to enable fast, compliant business decisions.

Qualifications

• Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited U.S. law school and licensed to practice in New York.
• 7+ years of relevant experience in product counseling, marketing/advertising law, privacy law, and commercial transactions, preferably including in-house experience at a consumer-facing company.
• Strong knowledge of FTC advertising guidelines, state consumer protection frameworks, and commercial contract structures.
• Experience advising product and marketing teams in a fast-paced environment with practical business guidance.
• Highly organized with the ability to manage shifting priorities in a dynamic setting.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with cross-team collaboration ability.

Responsibilities

• Serve as primary legal advisor to Warby Parker's product, technology, and brand teams from concept through launch on new features and consumer initiatives.
• Review and advise on marketing campaigns, influencer partnerships, and social media campaigns for FTC, CAN-SPAM, TCPA, and testimonial requirements.
• Provide intellectual property counseling including trademark, brand protection, licensing, and copyright matters.
• Draft and maintain consumer-facing terms, including website and app terms of use and promotional terms.
• Draft, review, and negotiate a wide range of commercial agreements: vendor contracts, SaaS/technology, licensing, partnerships, and collaboration agreements.
• Advise on privacy and data practices related to marketing tech and ad tech, especially healthcare data, with Legal team collaboration.
• Support new business initiatives and strategic partnerships to drive growth.
• Monitor developments in advertising, consumer protection, privacy, and e-commerce affecting the business.
• Develop and maintain templates, playbooks, and internal guidance to move teams quickly and compliantly.

As Assistant General Counsel, you will serve as the primary legal partner to our product, technology, and brand teams. In this role, you'll provide day-to-day legal counsel on product launches, marketing campaigns, commercial partnerships, intellectual property matters, and technology agreements. What you'll do:

• Serve as primary legal advisor to Warby Parker's product, technology, and brand teams, partnering from concept through launch on new product features and consumer-facing initiatives
• Review and advise on marketing and advertising campaigns, influencer partnerships, and social media campaigns, including compliance with FTC guidelines, state consumer protection laws, CAN-SPAM, TCPA, and endorsement/testimonial requirements
• Provide intellectual property counseling, including trademark, brand protection, content licensing, and copyright matters
• Draft and maintain consumer-facing legal terms, including website and app terms of use and promotional terms
• Draft, review, and negotiate a wide range of commercial agreements, including vendor contracts, SaaS and technology agreements, licensing deals, partnerships, and collaboration agreements
• Advise on privacy and data practices related to marketing technology, ad tech, and consumer data, working closely with others in the Legal team on matters involving healthcare data.
• Support new business initiatives and strategic partnerships that drive growth
• Monitor legal developments in advertising, consumer protection, privacy, and e-commerce that affect the business
• Develop and maintain templates, playbooks, and internal guidance documents to help business teams move quickly and compliantly

Who you are:

• Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an accredited U.S. law school and licensed to practice law in New York
• Backed by 7+ years of relevant experience in product counseling, marketing/advertising law, privacy law, and commercial transactions, preferably including in-house experience at a consumer-facing company, or a combination of training and experience that demonstrates equivalent expertise
• Strong working knowledge of FTC advertising and marketing guidelines, state consumer protection frameworks, and commercial contract structures
• Experience advising product and marketing teams in a fast-paced environment, with the ability to provide practical, business-forward guidance
• Highly organized with the ability to manage shifting priorities in a dynamic environment
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across legal and business teams

Extra Credit:

• Familiarity with HIPAA and other laws governing the privacy of health information
• Direct-to-consumer, e-commerce, or retail industry experience
• Familiarity with artificial intelligence and emerging technology legal issues

For applicable postings, non-exempt employees are eligible for overtime pay if you are required to work more than 40 hours in a workweek.
