Job description

Assistant General Counsel

A full‑time attorney in the University of Georgia’s Office of Legal Affairs, reporting directly to the General Counsel. The assistant general counsel provides legal advice, counseling, and contract review to university units and assists with litigation and policy interpretation.

Responsibilities

• Provide advice and counseling to assigned units (approximately 50% of time)
• Review and negotiate contracts (approximately 30% of time)
• Perform additional duties assigned by the General Counsel (approximately 20% of time)

Qualifications

• J.D. degree and membership in the State Bar of Georgia
• Minimum 2 years of legal experience, preferably in higher education law
• Strong oral and written communication skills
• Ability to plan and manage multiple tasks
• Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills with sound judgment

Preferred Qualifications

• J.D. from an accredited law school
• Immediate eligibility or admission to practice law in Georgia
• Experience in higher education legal matters
