Job summary

Kinder Morgan, Inc. seeks an Assistant General Counsel to manage regulatory matters and business transactions for the Natural Gas Group.

The role focuses on FERC-related issues, certificate, rate, and tariff matters, and complex gas pipeline transactional work. Ideal candidates will have 7+ years of experience from a reputable firm or in-house energy setting, strong drafting and negotiation skills, and the ability to collaborate across offices and segments.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with attorneys and colleagues across Kinder Morgan locations and segments.
• Travel 10%–20% and assist with relocation negotiations for qualified candidates.

What We Are Looking For

This Assistant General Counsel position is for an attorney who will be responsible for regulatory matters and business transactions associated with Kinder Morgan’s Natural Gas Group. Successful candidates should have extensive experience with regulatory matters before the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC), including certificate, rate and tariff matters, and general business transactions affecting interstate natural gas pipelines

What You Will Do

The core responsibilities of this position will include providing day-to-day legal advice, counsel, and services to the regulatory, commercial, and business development teams working on Kinder Morgan’s extensive interstate natural gas pipeline systems.

What You Need

We are seeking a candidate that possesses at least 7 years of legal experience with a reputable law firm, in-house with an energy company, or a combination between the two. The candidate should be adept at administrative law and understanding how Kinder Morgan’s pervasively regulated businesses are impacted by various federal, state, and local statutes and regulations.

This position will require a motived self-starter with strong skills in FERC regulatory matters, as well as negotiating, drafting, and implementing long-term transportation and storage agreements, precedent agreements, regulatory pleadings, operating and construction agreements, joint venture agreements, and other commercial agreements. The position will require excellent written and oral communication skills and the ability to effectively collaborate with attorneys and colleagues working in other Kinder Morgan office locations and business segments.

We require a team player who is flexible and willing to do what it takes to support effective operation of Kinder Morgan’s extensive natural gas operations. Candidates must be nimble, responsive, and comfortable working independently in a fast-paced environment throughout all levels of the organization.

This position requires 10% to 20% travel. A relocation package can be negotiated for qualified candidates.
