Job summary

University of Minnesota’s Minnesota Landscape Arboretum is seeking an assistant gardener to support horticultural care and landscape maintenance across the grounds. You’ll assist with planting, pruning, weed control, mulching, and mowing, while helping with natural area restoration and pest monitoring.

The role requires flexibility for snow operations and occasional evenings/weekends. You will oversee student workers/volunteers and may assist with education/outreach and events as priorities

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent plus 1 year of related horticultural experience.
• Must have and maintain a valid MN driver’s license.
• Possession of Minnesota Noncommercial Pesticide Applicator license may be required.
• Must be able to work in all weather conditions and may require flexible hours including evenings/weekends.
• Ability to perform manual labor and lift up to 50 lbs.

Responsibilities

• Assist gardeners and horticulturists with landscape maintenance and plant care tasks.
• Support planting, pruning, weed control, mulching, and mowing operations.
• Help with natural area restoration, pest monitoring, and equipment safety.
• Oversee student workers/volunteers and assist with snow removal tasks.
