Job summary

Gould Academy in Bethel, ME invites applications for the Assistant Coach to train student athletes in Freeski disciplines and support USASA/USSS competitions. You will work with the Head Freeski Coach and program directors to plan on- and off-snow sessions, while prioritizing safety and inclusive, student-centered guidance.

This full-time seasonal role runs mid-November to mid-April, with responsibilities spanning coaching, travel planning, equipment management, and communication with athletes

Qualifications

• Highschool diploma required; undergraduate degree preferred.
• Coaching experience in athletics is preferred.
• CPR, First Aid and SafeSport certification or willingness to be trained.
• Passport and US driver’s license required.
• Background check and CHRC clearance may be required.

Responsibilities

• Coach Freeski student athletes.
• Daily preparation of the training venue (course set, fencing, snow preparation, etc).
• Manage student athlete transportation for daily training and races.
• Conduct regular video review sessions either on-hill or as soon as possible after.
• Transport student athletes to/from airport/training venue.
• Help student athletes with gear selection and maintenance.
• Participate in commercial ski training camps that support underclass enrollment.
• Regular communication with athletes, parents, and coaches.
• Participate in professional development clinics/training.

Job description

Job Details: Job Location: Bethel, ME 04217, The Assistant Coach is primarily responsible for the student athlete training for and execution of USASA and USSS sanctioned competitions. The Coach works with the Head Freeski Coach and the Freestyle, Freeride and Freeski Program Director to plan and run both on and off-snow training sessions. Plans support the program’s current philosophy and follow the guidelines of safe and healthy training as described by USASA, USSS, and SafeSport. The Assistant Coach is also responsible for helping with competition planning and execution, including transportation, lodging, tuning, and supervision.

The coach promotes a strong student-centered approach that exemplifies a respectful, inclusive and dynamic environment. This involves fostering resilience, respect, inclusivity, and a sense of belonging among athletes. Adolescents under their guidance are empowered with agency, supported within a structured framework, and mentored for growth and development.

This is aFull Time/Seasonal (5 Month mid-November to mid-April) position.

Salary Range: $15,000-$20,000

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Coaching

• Coach Freeski student athletes

Travel Protocol / Camps / Overnight Trip

• 24 hr supervisory duties to include downtime, warm-up and cool down training, supervised study hall, equipment maintenance, and nutritional health and wellness habits

Management

• Manage athlete equipment
• Plan and execute away competitions including travel, lodging and supervision
• Submit accurate trip ITs and trip recons in a timely fashion
• Plan athlete travel for in-season race and training opportunities
• Manage and maintain program equipment (timing, video, etc)
• Write periodic athlete comments
• Ensure that GACP athletes comply with the Code of Conduct and the GACP Participation Agreement

Professionalism

• Attendance and participation in team and organization meetings
• Prompt and frequent communication with athletes and coaching staff
• Meets general daily professional standards regarding attendance, timeliness, and deadlines
• Adheres to policies in the Employee Handbook and Community Guide

Recruit

• Assists in the development of the recruiting process for Snow Sport families to include:
• Visit structure
• Identification of families

Community Life Role

• Help supervise students one night a week in an academic or residential space
• Engage in community activities
• Communicate and seek to reduce scheduling conflicts

Qualifications: Qualifications

• Highschool diploma required, undergraduate degree or above preferred
• Athletic competition or coaching experience preferred
• CPR, First Aid and Safe Sport Certified (or willingness to be trained)
• Basic software literacy in GoogleSuite
• Valid passport and US driver’s license
• Passacriminal and sexual offender background check
• Obtain CHRC clear status from the MaineDepartment of Education

Physical Work Environment

These physical requirements are not exhaustive and additional job-related physical requirements may be added to these by individuals on an as-needed basis. Corrective devices may be used to meet physical requirements.

• Ability to ski while carrying more than 50lbs of equipment
• Occasional prolonged and irregular hours, working November through April up to 7 days a week
• Frequent standing, stooping, bending, kneeling, pushing and pulling
• Occasional lifting up to 10-30 pounds of supplies
• Must be able to travel to all campus locations and to appropriate training and meetings
