Job description

Assistant Football Coach (S4 Career Level or P1 Career Level), Exempt, 11-Months

Grinnell College is seeking a dedicated and driven Assistant Football Coach/ Assistant Football Coach & Offensive Coordinator to play a vital role in shaping the success of our football program. This position will support the Head Coach in all facets of team operations, primarily focusing on offensive strategy, practice preparation, and game planning.

The ideal candidate will bring a passion for player development, a commitment to fostering a competitive and inclusive team culture, and the ability to recruit and mentor high-achieving student-athletes. Beyond on-field responsibilities, this role will also contribute to the program’s recruitment efforts and assist in various operational tasks assigned by the Athletic Department. Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and mentor a specific subgroup of players.
  • Enhance players’ skills through practical training and coaching techniques.
  • Assist in practice planning, video review, and game analysis.
  • Conduct group and individual meetings to support player growth.
  • Foster a positive team culture and contribute to overall program success.
  • Identify, target, recruit, and secure high-level student-athletes.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with recruits and their families.
  • Collaborate with the Head Coach and Admissions to support the football program’s recruitment efforts.
  • Perform additional responsibilities as assigned by the Head Coach and Athletic Department.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree from a four-year college or university.
  • Previous college playing or coaching experience is required.
  • Assistant Football Coach: Minimum of one year of experience.
  • Assistant Football Coach and Offensive Coordinator: At least three years of coaching experience are required, including one year focused on offensive coaching and play-calling responsibilities.
  • Ability to adapt to changing environments and responsibilities.

Selected candidate must successfully pass a background check prior to first day of employment. The College requires staff members to be vaccinated against COVID-19, with at least one CDC-approved vaccination dose by date of hire, or approved religious or medical exemption.
