Position: Assistant Football Coach / Defensive Coordinator

Location: Saint Vincent College

Full-Time/Part-Time: Full-Time

Exempt/Non-Exempt: Exempt

Reports To: Head Football Coach

Primary Function: The Assistant Coach/Defensive Coach of Football is responsible for assisting in the direction of the football program according to the rules and policies of Saint Vincent College and the NCAA. The assistant football coach/Defensive Coach assists the head coach in directing and managing a varsity intercollegiate sport program at the College, assists in practice and game preparation, recruiting, retention, and program administration. The assistant coach/defensive coach is responsible for all aspects of the football program's defense and is expected to work non-traditional hours, including nights and weekends.

Required Qualifications:

Education: A Bachelor's degree required.

Experience: Prior playing or coaching experience. Current certification in first aid, CPR, and AED.

Essential Duties:

  • Directs the defensive systems and implements the plan for the total defense.
  • Responsible for all aspects of the defensive plan, including practice plans and film review.
  • Promotes the intercollegiate programs of the College and abides by eligibility rules.
  • Assists in determining fiscal requirements and managing program expenditures.
  • Recruits academically qualified student-athletes and evaluates prospects.
  • Updates and monitors prospective student-athlete's admission status.
  • Coordinates prospective student-athlete's on-campus visits.
  • Demonstrates leadership and sportsmanship in accordance with College and NCAA guidelines.
  • Provides mentorship and instruction in the personal, academic, and athletic development of student-athletes.
  • Counsels and mentors team members in academics and personal matters.
  • Supervises and mentors student-athletes during practices and competitions.
  • Assists in developing team policies and sport-specific training.
  • Works with sports medicine staff for the care and prevention of athletic injuries.
  • Assists in preparing the intercollegiate competition schedule.
  • Coordinates team travel arrangements.
  • Analyzes opponent's teams and prepares game plans accordingly.
  • Represents the Athletic Department in various events.
  • Participates in fundraising events.
  • Cooperates with all athletic department staff members.
  • Attends required NCAA and conference meetings.
  • Maintains professional growth through meetings and workshops.

Other Duties:

  • Serves on committees and carries out special projects as directed.
