Job summary

The Dining Service Assistant Manager at the University of Nebraska–Lincoln helps oversee the daily operation of a residence hall dining center, ensuring safe, welcoming surroundings, healthy meal options, and high-quality service for students, staff, and guests.

The role supports a culture of diversity and growth while delivering excellent guest experiences; it requires strong supervisory skills in a high-volume environment and a commitment to food safety and cost controls.

Qualifications

  • Associate’s or equivalent education/experience in food-related, business, or hotel/restaurant management field.
  • Three years of food service experience with supervisory responsibilities in a high-volume dining environment.
  • Knowledge of cost controls, inventory controls and food safety/sanitation programs necessary.
  • Must supervise food production and have excellent customer relations, team building, and communications skills; familiarity with personal computers, word processing, spreadsheets, e-mail and internet.

Minimum Required Qualifications

  • Associate’s or equivalent education/experience in food-related, business, or hotel/restaurant management field.
  • Three years of food service experience with supervisory responsibilities in a high-volume commercial or Quick Service dining environment.
  • Knowledge of cost controls, inventory controls and food safety/sanitation programs necessary.
  • Must have ability to supervise food production, and excellent skills in customer relations, team building, and communications. Knowledge of personal computers, word processing, spreadsheets, e-mail and internet necessary.
  • Food Handler’s permit or ability to obtain by passing the Safety and Sanitation test required.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience.
  • Management experience in a non-commercial dining service operation desirable.
  • Excellent skills in customer relations, team building, and communications.
  • Knowledge of electronic payroll and computerized food management systems preferred.
