About This Position

The Assistant Food Service Director works with the Food Service Director to plan, direct, and coordinate activities associated with running a large food service operation with one or more production kitchens. The Assistant Food Service Director is also responsible for supervising food service workers involved in the preparation and distribution of food in the kitchen.

Essential Functions/Core Responsibilities

• Assist and support the Food Service Director with daily operations
• Proper use and training of all kitchen equipment
• Oversee daily tasks of food service workers
• Ensure safety and sanitation standards
• Maintain a sanitary work environment and comply with local codes and policies
• Assist in meal preparation when necessary
• Perform other duties as assigned
• Knowledge of local, state, federal regulations and survey processes
• Physical demands include lifting, bending, pushing, kneeling, walking, and standing for extended periods

Requirements

• High School Diploma or Equivalent; at least 18 years old
• Two years of management or supervisory experience in food service
• Three years of food service experience
• ServSafe Certification
• Experience with purchasing, inventory, ordering, and receiving
• Knowledge of kitchen sanitation and safety standards
• Basic accounting and mathematical skills
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office and food service management systems
• Preferred: prior institutional food service or restaurant experience
