About This Position

The Assistant Food Service Director works with the Food Service Director to plan, direct, and coordinate activities associated with running a large food service operation with one or more production kitchens. The Assistant Food Service Director is also responsible for supervising a group of food service workers involved with the preparation and distribution of food in the kitchen.

Essential Functions/Core Responsibilities

• Assist and support the Food Service Director with daily operations.
• Properly use all kitchen equipment and train staff accordingly.
• Oversee daily tasks of food service workers.
• Ensure safety and sanitation standards are met.
• Maintain a sanitary work environment and conform to all codes and policies.
• Assist in meal preparation when necessary.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
• Knowledge of local, state, and federal regulations and inspection processes.
• Physical demands include lifting, bending, pushing, kneeling, walking, and standing for extended periods.
• Must be able to stand and be on your feet for much of the shift.

Qualifications Needed

• High School Diploma or Equivalent; at least 18 years old.
• Two years of management or supervisory experience in food service.
• Three years of food service experience.
• ServSafe Certification.
• Experience with purchasing, inventory, ordering, and receiving.
• Knowledge of sanitation and safety standards.
• Basic accounting and math skills for reporting.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office and food service management systems.
• Prior institutional or restaurant experience preferred.
