Responsibilities

The Assistant Fleet Manager will report directly to the local Facility Managers and will be responsible for the management and coordination of maintenance for a fleet of transit vehicles. The Assistant Fleet Manager will help the scheduling and review of all vehicle maintenance with reviewing all repair details and costs. Included with the maintenance will be control of roadside response efforts and overseeing of all regulatory compliance inspections of the organizations fleet. The Assistant Fleet Manager will work in tandem with our operations team to ensure timely and efficient maintenance of the programs fleet while ensuring vehicles are available for day-to-day operational needs.

What you'll do

  • Assist in overseeing maintenance of all buses and service vehicles.
  • Assist in overseeing staffing needs, including selection, training, scheduling, and evaluation of employee performance. Provide input into disciplinary action, compensation, and promotion.
  • Coordinate with Safety Manager to train staff of all safety procedures and maintain regular safety meetings. Monitor safe workplace environment.
  • Work with area operations managers to ensure shop performance and cost focus efficiency across the department.
  • Perform parts ordering and inventory management, including purchase and work orders.
  • Track and report information related to EPA, Air Pollution Control District, CARB compliance, IRP registration, Heavy Vehicle Use Tax, CHP-BIT, OSHA, Clean-Air grants, Emissions, Fuel & mileage usage, Driver Logs, etc.
  • Oversee and process Pre- and Post-trip inspections.
  • Interface with various departments, supervisors and third party Insurance representatives.
  • Direct and support large purchase decisions of company trucks and equipment.
  • Assist with development of annual budget and work within those parameters to track and forecast spending.
  • Other duties or projects as needed.

Qualifications

What you need

  • Must possess strong communication and organization skills, and communicate effectively with other departments.
  • Proficient knowledge of computers and software such as inventory tracking software, Excel, Outlook and Word.
  • License Requirement: Per DOT Regulations, you will be required to have and maintain a valid CDL Class A, B or C Driver’s License depending on the location's hiring needs, with Passenger Endorsement if you will be responsible for operating shuttle buses with a passenger capacity of 15 passengers or more.
  • DOT Medical Card: A Medical Examiner’s Certificate (DOT Medical Card) is required.
  • Must have previous diesel mechanical experience.
  • Ability to lead and manage people.
  • Ability to manage an inventory system.
  • Knowledge of DOT regulations.

Essential Physical Requirements include

  • Standard office environment requiring sitting at desk with some bending, stooping, walking.
  • Hours/Schedules are determined based on Region and Customer Needs and in compliance with any regulations; on average – must be able to perform the above for at least 8 hours per day 5 days per week.
