Job summary

SLSCO LTD in Galveston, TX is seeking an Assistant Financial Controller to work closely with the Financial Controller and divisional controllers. You will oversee AP/AR, month-end close, and financial reporting to ensure accuracy and compliance in a fast-paced environment.

The role requires a Bachelor’s in accounting or related field and at least five years as a Senior Accountant/Accounting Manager, with construction-industry experience preferred.

• Experience with financial statements preparation.
• Experience in general ledger and month-end close.
• Construction industry experience preferred.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

• Strong time management and organizational skills.
• Proficient with Microsoft Office (Excel/Word/Outlook/Teams).
• CMIC experience strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

• Prepare and consolidate monthly financial statements and reports.
• Assist GL Accountant with month-end close and balance sheet reconciliations.
• Reconcile bank statements and report discrepancies to the Financial Controller.
• Prepare journal entries including cash receipts, inter-company transfers, and payroll.
• Oversee accounts payable and accounts receivable for accuracy and timely deliverables.
• Assist with audits including year-end and governmental/state/insurance audits.
• Develop and implement accounting policies and procedures for accurate reporting.
• Provide leadership and training to accounting staff.
• Guide divisions by communicating accounting policies and procedures.
• Maintain internal controls and procedures.
• Assist ERP conversion/implementation testing and training sessions.
• Support management in ad-hoc reporting and special projects.
• Other duties as assigned.

Job description

The Assistant Financial Controller will work directly with the Financial Controller, Division Controllers and GL accountants to ensure accuracy and compliance of accounting operations and financial reporting for our Affiliates.

The Assistant Financial Controller has responsibility for the results of AP, AR, and month/year end closing. The ideal candidate is detail oriented, an effective communicator and able to work in a fast-paced environment. This role will report directly to the Financial Controller, or their designee.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities

• Preparing and consolidating monthly financial statements and reports.
• Assist GL Accountant with month-end close and balance sheet reconciliations.

• Preparing journal entries including cash receipts, inter-company transfers, and payroll.

• Prepare and assist with audits including but not limited to year-end audit, governmental audits, state audits, and insurance audits.
• Developing and implementing accounting policies and procedures to ensure accurate financial reporting.
• Providing leadership, training, and development to the accounting staff.
• Guide and assist divisions by communicating current accounting policies and procedures.
• Maintain internal controls and procedures.
• Assists in ERP conversion/implementation testing and participation in training sessions.
• Support management in completing special projects, ad-hoc reporting and analysis requests, and other tasks as assigned.
• Other duties as assigned.

Position Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in accounting or related field.
• Minimum five years of work experience as a Senior Accountant/Accounting Manager.
• Experience with preparation of financial statements.
• Experience in general ledger functions and month end close process
• Experience working for a general contractor or subcontractor in the construction industry is preferred.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Strong attention to detail and ability to proof one’s own work as well as the work of others.
• Effective time management and organizational skills.
• Strong proficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook, Teams)
• Experience with CMIC strongly preferred.

Physical Demands

• Use of manual dexterity, tactile, visual, and audio acuity.
• Use of repetitive motion, prolonged periods of sitting and standing, and sustained visual and mental applications and demands.
• Occasional lifting (up to 40 pounds), bending, pulling, and carrying.
