Job summary

MnGFOA in Shoreview, Minnesota seeks an experienced Assistant Finance Director to help lead the Finance Department and ensure compliance with City standards and federal/state requirements. The role focuses on GAAP, ACFR, audit workpapers, investment portfolio, and budgeting support.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or closely related field
• Three years of increasingly responsible experience in government accounting, government finance, or government auditing
• Two years supervisory experience
• Two years of experience with financial accounting software, spreadsheets, and databases
• Knowledge of GASB pronouncements
• Proficient in Microsoft Excel

Responsibilities

• Strong knowledge and understanding of GAAP and accounting within the governmental sector
• Coordinate and prepare audit workpapers, schedules and annual financial reports
• Assist in the preparation of the City’s ACFR
• Maintain City’s investment portfolio
• Develop and refine accounting and internal control policies
• Assist in the preparation of special assessments
• Coordinate the preparation of all documents required for the issuance of the debt instruments
• Provide assistance to the Finance Director and the City Manager during the budget process
• Manage City's insurance and risk management program (property, casualty, workers’ comp)
• Other duties and special projects as assigned
