The City of Pomona in Southern California seeks an experienced Assistant Finance Director to lead multiple finance functions and guide the City’s financial operations. Reporting to the Finance Director/City Treasurer, the role is a key member of the department's leadership team.
With expertise in governmental accounting and ERP systems, the successful candidate will optimize processes, strengthen internal controls, and enhance reporting while expanding executive leadership experience.
Located approximately 30 miles east of downtown Los Angeles, the City of Pomona (pop. 150,000) is one of Southern California's most diverse, dynamic, and historic communities. Reporting to the Finance Director/City Treasurer, the Assistant Finance Director will serve as a key member of the Department's leadership team, overseeing multiple finance functions while helping guide the City's financial operations.
This is an exceptional opportunity for an experienced municipal finance professional with strong governmental accounting expertise. The City recently implemented the Workday enterprise resource planning (ERP) system, and the Assistant Director will play a key role in optimizing financial processes, enhancing reporting, strengthening internal controls, and helping the City fully leverage its ERP investment. The position also offers an outstanding opportunity to broaden executive leadership experience by gaining exposure to all aspects of municipal finance.
Candidates will have six years of increasingly responsible experience in accounting, budgeting, financial analysis, auditing, or closely related field, including two years of supervisory experience, and a bachelor's degree in accounting, public administration, business, or a related field.
Annual salary range is $162,205 - $217,370 with a 5% salary increase effective 10/1/26, DOQE, plus competitive benefits.
