Job summary

AcuFast is seeking an Assistant Genetic Farm Manager for our Tell City, IN barn to support the genetic program and daily operations. The role collaborates with the Genetic Farm Manager to drive productivity, ensure data accuracy, and maintain high welfare and biosecurity standards.

You will lead the day-to-day execution of breeding instructions, train team members on SOPs, monitor performance data, and help prioritize activities to meet genetic targets while upholding safety and quality.

Qualifications

  • 3+ years sow farm experience, preferably in a genetic nucleus or multiplier setting.
  • Experience leading and motivating teams.
  • Strong understanding of swine production and genetics principles.
  • Excellent interpersonal, time management, and organizational skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Self-motivated, reliable, and detail oriented.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and solve operational problems.

Responsibilities

  • Lead day-to-day execution of genetic work instructions and ensure alignment with established genetic targets.
  • Work alongside the team in daily barn operations, supporting productivity and consistency in execution.
  • Assist the Farm Manager in coordinating daily activities and team priorities.
  • Provide on-the-job training and guidance on SOPs, and Genetic work Instructions (GWI) animal care, biosecurity, and health & safety practices.
  • Support a positive and respectful team environment.
  • Take ownership of implementation and consistency of genetic work instructions (GWI) across the unit.
  • Assist with and oversee quality of mating processes, animal identification, and performance tracking.
  • Actively participate in and support evaluation of animals at key stages, including selection and data collection.
  • Reinforce team understanding of genetic program requirements in daily work.
  • Ensure accurate data collection and entry related to breeding, performance, and animal records.
  • Maintain integrity of genetic and production documentation.
  • Support training and consistency in record-keeping practices.
  • Ensure all team members follow established SOPs, animal welfare standards, and biosecurity protocols.
  • Monitor for deviations and work with the Farm Manager to implement corrective actions.
  • Support basic analysis of production and genetic performance data to identify improvement opportunities.
  • Assist in implementing changes to improve productivity, efficiency, and genetic outcomes.
  • Ensure ventilation, feed, and watering systems are functioning properly.
  • Assist in identifying and troubleshooting equipment or system issues.
  • Support development of team capability in diagnosing and resolving operational concerns.
  • Work safely and always ensure proper use of PPE.
  • Uphold strict biosecurity protocols for all staff and visitors.
  • Performing other general farm duties as required.

We are currently seeking an Assistant Genetic Farm Manager to support our Tell City, IN barn operations. This role works closely with the Genetic Farm Manager to support daily barn activities, execution of the genetic program, and overall team coordination. The position is hands-on and actively involved in day-to-day operations while supporting consistency and performance across the unit.
