Clean Harbors in Cleveland, OH is seeking an Assistant Facility General Manager to lead day-to-day operations at the wastewater treatment facility, alongside the current General Manager. You will drive regulatory compliance, labor management, financial performance, and outstanding customer service while promoting safety and development.

The role requires hands-on wastewater treatment experience, strong leadership, and a track record of delivering operational success.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in chemistry, chemical engineering, environmental science or business is required.
• 5+ years in plant operations supervision or management roles are required.
• 5 to 7 years of wastewater treatment experience is highly preferred.
• Strong organizational skills and self-motivation.
• Proven leadership and interpersonal communication skills.
• Ability to work effectively in a team environment.
• Working knowledge of environmental statutes, regulations, and compliance requirements.

Responsibilities

• Maintain and manage the wastewater facility to meet Clean Compliance standards and KPIs.
• Ensure waste processing aligns with RCRA, DOT, DTSC, local POTW and customer requirements.
• Develop and maintain expertise in facility‑specific wastewater treatment technologies.
• Oversee employee scheduling, hours, overtime, hiring, performance appraisals, and disciplinary actions.
• Manage labor relations and ensure compliance with worker’s compensation regulations.
• Recommend merit increases and promotions for facility personnel.
• Enforce Health & Safety protocols and SOPs; participate in safety meetings.
• Work with the Facility Compliance Manager to ensure ongoing regulatory compliance (Part B RCRA permit).
• Oversee the profit and loss, control operating costs, and manage purchasing and billing.
• Collaborate with National Logistics to coordinate outbound waste management and ensure customer service.
• Direct training and mentoring of plant employees.

Clean Harbors located in Cleveland, OH is looking to add an Assistant Facility General Manager to their team. The Assistant General Manager of the Wastewater Treatment Facility is a proactive, experienced leader responsible for working alongside the current General Manager, helping to oversee all aspects of facility operations, regulatory compliance, labor management, financial performance, and customer service. This role helps ensures the safe, efficient, and compliant operation of the plant while fostering a culture of safety, development, and excellence. The ideal candidate has strong leadership skills, hands‑on experience in wastewater treatment, and a proven ability to drive operational success.

Shift: Day Shift, Monday-Friday. Overtime and Saturdays as needed.

Pay: $90,000K+ DOE, 15% annual bonus potential.

Responsibilities:

Facility Operations & Compliance:

• Maintain and manage the wastewater facility to meet Clean Compliance standards and achieve key performance indicators (CCP KPIs).


• Ensure processing of hazardous and non‑hazardous waste aligns with RCRA, DOT, DTSC, local POTW, and customer requirements.


• Develop and maintain expertise in facility‑specific wastewater treatment technologies.

Labor Management & Staffing:

• Oversee employee scheduling, work hours, overtime, hiring, performance appraisals, and disciplinary actions.


• Manage labor relations and ensure compliance with worker’s compensation regulations.


• Recommend merit increases and promotions for facility personnel.

Health & Safety:

• Enforce corporate and facility‑specific Health & Safety protocols and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).


• Participate in facility Health & Safety meetings and collaborate with the safety department to enhance safety standards.

Regulatory Compliance:

• Work with the Facility Compliance Manager to ensure ongoing regulatory compliance, including Part B RCRA permit or equivalent.

Financial Management:

• Oversee the profit and loss statement, ensuring operating costs, labor, materials, supplies, and SG&A expenses are on target.


• Review and approve facility purchasing and manage accurate, timely billing and coding of materials.

Logistics & Customer Service:

• Collaborate with National Logistics to coordinate outbound waste management.


• Ensure excellent customer service for internal stakeholders and external clients.

Training & Development:

• Direct training, development, and mentoring of plant employees, preparing current and future managers for career growth.

Maintenance & Facility Presentation:

• Supervise facility maintenance efforts, including preventative maintenance system.


• Ensure the facility is clean, well‑maintained, and ready for customer audits or tours.

Cross‑Functional Collaboration:

• Build and maintain effective working relationships with Field Service, Technical Services, and Logistics management teams.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Environmental Science, Business or a related field is required.


• 5+ years in plant operations supervision or management roles is required.


• Alternative combinations of education and experience may be considered.


• 5 to 7 years of wastewater treatment experience is highly preferred.


• Strong organizational skills and self‑motivation.


• Proven leadership and interpersonal communication skills.


• Ability to work effectively in a team environment.


• Working knowledge of environmental statutes, regulations, and compliance requirements.
