Assistant Facilities Manager, Chicago West

ENERGY SYSTEMS GROUP is looking for an Assistant Facilities Manager to join our Operation Services Team at our Chicago West Energy Center located in Chicago, Illinois. This position is on site.

The Assistant Facilities Manager is responsible for supporting the Facilities Manager in the management of the Chicago Westside Energy Center for ESG’s Operations Services Department. The major process responsibilities include production of electricity, steam, and chilled water to meet customer contractual requirements. The Assistant Facilities Manager is responsible for delivering results related to EHS, financial performance, plant reliability and efficiency, customer satisfaction, and employee training and development. The Assistant Facilities Manager is responsible for creating and maintaining positive customer relations and must have a technical understanding of and practical experience with energy distribution, production and components associated with various equipment including motors, control centers, boilers, chillers, refrigeration systems, turbines, etc. This individual provides leadership and guidance in addition to technical support for all facility technicians and proper tracking and recordkeeping for various facility, customer and corporate reports. The Assistant Facilities Manager will be available for unexpected and emergency troubleshooting for 24 x 7 operations.

The Essential Functions Of The Position Includes:

  • Provide leadership, guidance, and technical support for technicians that operate on a 24 hour x 7 day basis.
  • Deliver reliable plant service, respond to issues with urgency, and ensure contingency plans are in place.
  • Manage all aspects of the energy production facilities, including daily operations, log reviews, water chemistry monitoring, maintenance, financial performance, budgeting, EHS, plant efficiency and reliability, and customer satisfaction.
  • Lead site safety performance by ensuring all regulatory and company rules are adhered to at the site, training employees, holding others accountable, reporting and investigating incidents/ injuries, implementing programs to enhance the safety culture, and by personally observing safe work practices and adhering to all safety requirements.
  • Ensure outstanding customer satisfaction. Build and maintain positive relations with key customer management and staff employees to ensure the company maintains a positive image with our customers.

Your Background Includes:

  • Associate’s degree and three (3) to six (6) years’ related experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Prior managerial and/or supervisory experience.
  • Excellent communication skills (verbal and written) and interpersonal skills to effectively communicate proactively with all levels of ESG, external organizations, and potential clients.
  • Ability to lead, train, and develop employees operating and maintaining a very technical process.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office programs.
  • Ability to read, analyze and interpret financial data, technical data, equipment manuals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.

A Bonus To Have:

  • Bachelor’s degree and six (6) to eight (8) years related experience and/or training; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience with turbines, boilers, and chilled water systems.
  • Chief Power Engineer (NIULPE), or 1st Class Power (NIULPE), or Professional Engineer (PE).
  • Certified Facilities Manager certification and/or other relevant certifications.
  • Experience with high strong maintenance programs including preventive and predictive methodologies.
