Job Description

Who we are: The German International School Washington D.C. is a leading international school in the Washington DC metro area. For over 60 years, GISW has been teaching children from preschool through twelfth grade. Aside from being the first MINTEC certified school in the USA, GISW offers a U.S. High School Diploma as well as a German International Abitur (DIA) to its students.

General Information:
  • Hours: Monday – Friday, 8am - 5pm, with 1-hour lunch. Three or four Saturdays per year.
  • Pay Range: $30.58 – $36.63/hour
Description:
  • Assist in the maintenance of the buildings' internal systems and equipment, working alongside the Facilities Engineer and Facilities Manager.
  • Responsibilities include maintenance and proper functioning of electrical, mechanical, heating, cooling, roofing, and irrigation systems.
  • Perform plumbing tasks, facility repairs, equipment replacements, assist with construction projects, supervise outside vendors, and report technical issues.
  • Daily duties include maintaining safety standards, HVAC oversight, mechanical and equipment checks, and supporting school operations.
  • Maintain logs, follow preventative maintenance programs, assist in weather-related preparations, and ensure safety and maintenance practices.
  • Carry a two-way radio, respond promptly to calls, maintain licensing, participate in training, and perform additional duties as assigned.
Requirements:
  • Hold a current Third Class Stationary Engineer license in Maryland.
  • Proficient with Tridium Niagara digital controls and HVAC BAS systems.
  • At least 3 years of experience with hot water boilers, chillers, FCUs, and related equipment.
  • Trade skills in HVAC, electrical, plumbing, welding, drywall, painting, and related tasks.
  • Competent with computer applications like Excel, Word, Outlook, and Teams.
  • Strong English communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and work effectively in a team.
  • Experience in a school setting is preferred but not required.
  • Legal authorization to work in the US.
