Job summary

Pete Moffat Construction in Palo Alto, CA is seeking an Assistant Estimator to support our high-end residential projects. You will review plans, help prepare bid estimates, and coordinate with the design team and subcontractors to ensure accurate costing and timely bids.

The ideal candidate has 1–2 years of estimating experience, a construction-related degree, strong math skills, and proficiency with Excel/Word.

Qualifications

• College degree related to Construction Management or Architecture, or equivalent industry experience.
• 1–2 years of related estimating experience required; experience with and understanding of residential construction processes preferred.
• Some Project Management experience is helpful.
• Ability to read blueprints, shop drawings, and specifications with working proficiency.
• Strong ability to multitask, prioritize, and work well under pressure to meet established deadlines.
• Solid mathematical aptitude with close attention to detail.
• Proficiency in Excel and Word is required; proficiency in Adobe Acrobat, Bluebeam, and MS Project is helpful.
• Logical reasoning skills and solid multitasking capabilities.
• Experience in high-end residential construction is beneficial.

Responsibilities

• Assist in producing cohesive estimates reflecting PMC’s build philosophies based on information provided by the design team/clients.
• Review plans and architectural drawings; assist Sr. Estimator in determining best estimating strategies.
• Prepare requests for clarification/information to the design teams as needed.
• Support the Senior Estimator in the solicitation of subcontractor bids for assigned projects.
• Develop a working knowledge of material unit costs, system square foot costs, and total building square foot costs.
• Provide other services as directed, including change order pricing, site visits, and quantity take-offs.
• Help support bid presentations when needed.
• Work with clients and maintain relationships to ensure client satisfaction with the project and the company.
• Study and analysis of historical cost data.
