Job summary

Burns & McDonnell in Columbus, OH is seeking an Assistant Environmental Engineer to assist project teams from concept through design and construction.   • Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Environmental Engineering or related field; ABET accreditation strongly preferred.
  • Internship or related consulting experience preferred.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work methodically and analytically in a quantitative problem-solving environment; strong critical thinking.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office; basic CAD tools like AutoCAD, BIM (Revit); attention to detail and teamwork.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills; EIT certification preferred.
  • Minimum GPA of 3.0 strongly preferred.
  • Campus/community involvement is a plus; authorized to work in the U.S. without sponsorship.

Responsibilities

  • Assists in environmental design from conceptual phase through design completion.
  • Assists with reviewing production drawings for power plants, process facilities, industrial and other facilities.
  • Assists in designing environmental components per project manager requirements.
  • Applies basic environmental engineering concepts, practices, codes and procedures.
  • Assists with research and data collection for projects.
  • Assists with updating CAD drawings across multiple software.
  • Supports client presentations and contract administration for various facilities.
  • Performs field inspections, measurements or calculations for clients.
  • Performs other duties as assigned and adheres to policies.

Job description

Description

The Assistant Environmental Engineer will work under the supervision of a licensed professional engineer to assist project teams to create world class designs for new projects, alterations and redevelopments on a variety of projects including high-voltage transmission line routing, power generation construction activities, and water treatment facilities. The Assistant Environmental Engineer will work with the project team throughout the design and construction process, adapting environmental plans according to budget constraints, design factors or client needs.

  • Assists in the environmental design of projects from the conceptual phase through design completion.
  • Assists with modifying and reviewing production drawings for a variety of projects including, but not limited to: power plants, process facilities, industrial facilities, healthcare facilities, airports, educational institutions, commercial, and governmental and military facilities.
  • Assists in designing environmental components for project needs and requirements that are set forth by the project managers.
  • Applies basic knowledge of commonly used environmental engineering/design concepts, principles, practices, codes, and procedures within the environmental engineering services industry.
  • Assists with research and compiles project related data as required by the project managers.
  • Assists with correcting and updating drawings provided by senior engineers to verify corrections are made within multiple CAD related software.
  • Assists with client presentations, shop drawing review, and contract administration for the design of power, process, pipeline, industrial, healthcare, airports, educational institutions, commercial, and governmental and military facilities.
  • Assists in performing field inspections, measurements or calculations for public and private clients.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

A bachelor’s degree in Civil or Environmental Engineering or a related field from a recognized, accredited program. ABET accreditation strongly preferred.

  • Prior internship and/or related consulting experience preferred.
  • Basic knowledge in standard environmental and civil engineering techniques, principles and procedures.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work methodically and analytically in a quantitative problem-solving environment and demonstrated critical thinking skills.
  • Proficient computer skills (e.g. Microsoft Office Suite).
  • Basic computer skills include AutoCAD, BIM (Revit), 3D Rendering Programs. Strong attention to detail, facilitation, team building, collaboration, organization and problem-solving skills.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills.
  • Engineers in Training-EIT Certification preferred.
  • Minimum of a 3.0 GPA strongly preferred.
  • Involvement on campus or in the community preferred.
  • Candidates must be legally authorized to work permanently (i.e., without time limitations, without restrictions or without need for work sponsorship) in the country where this position is located.
Compensation

$70,000.00-110,000.00 Yearly

The expected compensation range for this position is displayed in compliance with all local/state regulations. The expected compensation range for this position is based on a number of factors, including but not limited to: individual education, qualifications, prior work experience and work location. The total annual compensation package will consist of a base salary and eligibility to participate in our discretionary year-end incentive bonus program.
