Seaward Services Assistant Engineer Job Description

Seaward Services is seeking an Assistant Engineer for our operation.

About You:

This person will be adaptable, dynamic, and embody Hornblower's RESPECT Service System.

About the Opportunity:

The Assistant Engineer is a member of the Engineering Department responsible for the maintenance and operation of mechanical and hydraulic equipment onboard the vessel Seaward Endeavor or Seaward Explorer. Assistant Engineers are responsible for inspecting, maintaining, and repairing mechanical and hydraulic equipment, as well as lubricating moving parts of the engine and other machinery. They ensure effective communication of technical requirements to company representatives, regulatory personnel, and vessel crew members. Minimum DDE 4000 required.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  1. Assisting in ship's technical maintenance and the safe, efficient, economical operation of all machinery.
  2. Following all engine room procedures.
  3. Supporting engineering/technical department tasks.
  4. Maintaining sufficient bunkers and essential engine-related stores and consumables.
  5. Assisting with the safe loading and transferring of bunkers.
  6. Participating in the day-to-day operation of all plant and machinery.
  7. Performing routine maintenance, repairs, and technical jobs under the direction of the Chief Engineer.
  8. Standing engine room watch during vessel underway or as necessary.
  9. Maintaining logs of lube/oil quantities and consumption.
  10. Monitoring and analyzing cooling water.
  11. Assisting in maintaining the general condition of machinery, steering gear, air conditioning, etc.
  12. Carrying out engine room watches and maintenance tasks.
  13. Assisting with firefighting and emergency procedures onboard.
  14. Providing training and orientation to crew members about vessel features, characteristics, and procedures.
  15. Performing other duties as assigned.

Requirements & Qualifications:

  1. Valid Merchant Mariners Credential (MMC)
  2. Minimum DD-4000 endorsement
  3. Valid U.S. Passport
  4. Valid USCG Medical Certificate
  5. QMED Endorsement
  6. Valid TWIC Card
  7. Ability to pass a physical exam and written test

Salary: $500/day full-time
