Actalent is seeking an entry-level Assistant Engineer in Valencia, CA to support civil engineering and land development tasks under close supervision. You will perform basic drafting, grading, drainage, and QA/QC work using CADD and standard practices.

This hybrid role offers professional growth, an 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. schedule, and benefits including PTO, holidays, 401(k), and insurance. A Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering is required; EIT preferred.

Job Title: Assistant Engineer

Job Description

The Assistant Engineer supports civil engineering and land development projects by performing basic engineering and drafting tasks under close supervision. This entry-level role applies standard techniques, procedures, and criteria to assigned tasks as part of broader project assignments, while building professional skills in civil engineering design, CADD, drainage, storm water, grading, and quality assurance/quality control.

Responsibilities

• Perform specific engineering and drafting assignments designed to develop technical knowledge and professional skills in civil engineering and land development.
• Apply standard engineering practices, techniques, and procedures to specific tasks, exercising limited engineering judgment on work details and preliminary selections of engineering alternatives.
• Produce civil engineering design and documentation related to land development, including grading, drainage, and storm water elements using CADD and related software.
• Conduct QA/QC on assigned tasks by reviewing, checking, and correcting work prior to submission, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and adherence to project standards.
• Use CADD, engineering, and office software to prepare plans, drawings, and supporting documentation in accordance with established graphic standards and project requirements.
• Apply basic knowledge of graphic standards, techniques, and principles to create clear, consistent, and professional engineering plans and drawings.
• Receive and follow close supervision on new or non-routine aspects of assignments, implementing techniques and procedures selected by senior engineering staff.
• Stay current with new developments, methods, and best practices related to assigned engineering tasks by attending training workshops and actively expanding knowledge in all areas of civil engineering.
• Maintain organized and accurate quality documentation and analysis related to assigned tasks and project deliverables.
• Collaborate with team members in a focused, welcoming environment to support large, complex projects and contribute to overall project success.
• Perform other related duties as needed to support project timelines, quality standards, and team objectives.

Essential Skills

• Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from an accredited four-year college.
• Demonstrated competence in understanding and applying mathematics and civil engineering principles and theory to practical projects.
• Ability to perform basic civil engineering design tasks related to land development, including grading, drainage, and storm water considerations.
• Proficiency in operating CADD software for engineering design and drafting.
• Competence in using engineering and office software to support project documentation and analysis.
• Basic knowledge of applying graphic standards, techniques, and principles to engineering plans and drawings.
• Understanding of QA/QC processes and the ability to apply quality assurance and quality control methods to assigned tasks and project deliverables.
• Ability to follow standard techniques, procedures, and criteria under close supervision and within established project frameworks.
• Strong attention to detail and accuracy when reviewing and correcting engineering work prior to submission.
• Entry-level orientation with no prior professional experience required, but with the core technical skills and educational background outlined.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Completion of the Engineer-in-Training (E.I.T.) examination is preferred.
• Interest in land development projects and exposure to civil site design, drainage, storm water, and grading is beneficial.
• Willingness to attend training workshops and continuously expand knowledge in civil engineering methods, tools, and standards.
• Ability to work effectively in a welcoming but focused team environment of approximately 15-20 people.
• Strong organizational skills for managing quality documentation and project files.
• Effective communication skills to collaborate with supervisors and team members on project tasks.
• Motivation to grow internally within the organization and gain exposure to large, complex projects.

Work Environment

This role is based in an in-office/hybrid work environment, offering a welcoming but quiet and focused culture within a team of approximately 15-20 professionals. The standard work schedule runs from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Business casual attire is expected. The position provides exposure to large civil engineering and land development projects, with regular use of CADD, engineering, and office software. Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Valencia, CA.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $31.25 - $36.06/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
