Miller Electric Company is seeking an Assistant Project Manager (Electrical/Mechanical Engineer) to join our Richmond team. You will support estimating scope and costs, manage subcontractors on large projects, and maintain thorough project documentation.

Qualifications

• 2+ years as an Assistant Project Manager in commercial electrical work.
• Ability to work independently and in a team.
• Strong computer skills and quick to learn new systems.
• Effective scheduling and delegation to meet deadlines.
• Authorized to work in the U.S. full-time without visa sponsorship.

Responsibilities

• Assist in estimating project scope and costs.
• Manage project expectations and execution of subcontractors for projects $100M+.
• Maintain project documentation.
• Track project expenses and budget.
• Prepare reports.
• Communicate with clients and subcontractors.
• Participate in project coordination meetings as requested.
• Research and prepare change requests to resolve design issues for approval.
• Research and recommend solutions to design document problems, including conflicts and errors/omissions.
• Monitor field work to ensure compliance with standards and codes.
• Assist with submittal and RFI processes.
• Assist in early completion and tracking of billing.

Education

Bachelor’s degree in Project Management, Construction Management, Engineering, or related field (preferred) or journeyman/master electrician license

Salary Range: $99,324.96 – $145,676.16 (Relocation assistance will be provided for Qualified Candidates!)

As an Assistant Project Manager, you’ll report directly to your Project Manager in a client‑facing role that requires building strong relationships both in and outside the office. You’ll develop through hands‑on experience, peer collaboration, and ongoing technical training.

Essential Job Functions

• Assist in estimating project scope and costs

• Manage project expectations and execution of subcontractors for projects $100M+

• Maintaining project documentation

• Tracking project expenses and budget

• Preparing reports

• Communicate with clients and subcontractors

• Attend and actively participate in project coordination and owner/contractor/architect/engineer meetings as requested or required.

• Research and preparation of change requests to resolve design issues for approval

• Research and recommend solutions to design document problems, including conflicts, interferences, and errors/omissions

• Monitor field work and/or contract work to ensure compliance with company standards, procedures, specifications, and codes

• Assist with the submittal and RFI processes

• Assist in the early completion and tracking of billing

Education & Experience

REQUIRED

• 2+ years as an Assistant Project Manager over commercial electrical work

• Able to work independently as well as in a team environment

• Strong computer skills and quick to learn new systems

• Commitment to continuous improvement of communication, organization and leadership skills

• Effective scheduling and delegation to accomplish tasks on time

• Tactful conflict resolution and problem-solving abilities

• Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the U.S. on a full-time basis without employer sponsorship. Employment-based visa sponsorship (including H-1B sponsorship) is not available for this position.

PREFERRED

• Bachelor’s degree in a related field (Project Management, Construction Management, Business, Engineering, etc.), paired with industry experience OR an overall appropriate combination of certification(s), experience, and education (journeyman or master electrician’s license)

• A good understanding of how to read electrical drawings and specifications

• Familiar with computer-based estimating

• Knowledge of billing and collections
