Paycom - ATS in Grand Prairie, TX is seeking an Assistant Electrical Estimator to prepare accurate and competitive estimates for electrical construction projects. You will review requirements, perform quantity takeoffs, develop labor and material costs, and coordinate with suppliers and subcontractors to produce complete bids.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Business, or related field preferred; equivalent experience considered.
  • Experience with electrical, commercial construction, or related project-based industries preferred.
  • Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, contracts, and technical documentation.
  • Understanding of construction methods, labor productivity, material costs, and project pricing.
  • Strong mathematical, analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and the ability to learn estimating software.
  • Familiarity with NEC, NFPA, OSHA, and applicable construction requirements.
  • Experience with Bluebeam, OST, Accubid, Trimble, Procore, Autodesk Construction Cloud, or similar platforms.
  • Experience working with General Contractors, electrical contractors, owners, consultants, vendors, and subcontractors.

Responsibilities

  • Perform detailed quantity takeoffs for labor, materials, equipment, subcontractors, and other project costs.
  • Develop estimates using estimating software, spreadsheets, historical cost data, and other resources.
  • Determine labor hours, productivity assumptions, material quantities, equipment needs, and subcontractor requirements.
  • Evaluate project scope, construction methods, schedules, and site conditions that may affect cost.
  • Prepare accurate and complete estimates within established bid deadlines.
  • Obtain and evaluate quotes from suppliers, subcontractors, and vendors.
  • Compare pricing and confirm proposals are aligned with project scope.
  • Identify scope gaps, exclusions, assumptions, and potential cost risks.
  • Coordinate with Procurement regarding material pricing, availability, substitutions, and lead times.
  • Prepare bid summaries, pricing worksheets, proposals, and supporting documentation.
  • Assist with value-engineering opportunities and alternative pricing options.

Job Details: Job Location: GRAND PRAIRIE, TX 75050, Position Summary

The Assistant Electrical Estimator is responsible for preparing accurate and competitive estimates and proposals for electrical, pathways, and infrastructure construction projects. This position reviews project requirements, performs quantity takeoffs, develops labor and material costs, obtains subcontractor and supplier pricing, and identifies scope requirements, assumptions, exclusions, and potential risks.

The Estimator works closely with Sales, Project Management, Operations, Engineering, Procurement, Contracts, vendors, and subcontractors to develop complete and competitive bids and support a smooth transition from estimating to project execution.

Principal Accountabilities
Estimating & Preconstruction
  • Review drawings, specifications, addenda, bid instructions, and project requirements.
  • Perform detailed quantity takeoffs for labor, materials, equipment, subcontractors, and other project costs.
  • Develop estimates using estimating software, spreadsheets, historical cost data, and other resources.
  • Determine labor hours, productivity assumptions, material quantities, equipment needs, and subcontractor requirements.
  • Evaluate project scope, construction methods, schedules, and site conditions that may affect cost.
  • Prepare accurate and complete estimates within established bid deadlines.
Pricing & Bid Development
  • Obtain and evaluate quotes from suppliers, subcontractors, and vendors.
  • Compare pricing and confirm proposals are aligned with project scope.
  • Identify scope gaps, exclusions, assumptions, and potential cost risks.
  • Coordinate with Procurement regarding material pricing, availability, substitutions, and lead times.
  • Prepare bid summaries, pricing worksheets, proposals, and supporting documentation.
  • Assist with value-engineering opportunities and alternative pricing options.
Project & Cross-Functional Coordination
  • Work with Estimator to understand customer requirements, bid strategy, and proposal expectations.
  • Coordinate with Engineering to confirm technical requirements and design assumptions.
  • Work with Estimator, Operations and Project Management to validate labor, productivity, scheduling, and constructability assumptions.
  • Coordinate with Contracts regarding commercial requirements, exclusions, and contractual considerations.
  • Participate in pre-bid meetings, site walks, scope reviews, and customer meetings as needed.
Change Orders & Project Support
  • Assist Project Managers and Estimators with pricing change orders, scope revisions, and additional work.
  • Review project performance against estimating assumptions when requested.
  • Assist with project handoff by communicating estimating assumptions, scope, exclusions, and other relevant information.
Estimating Administration & Process Improvement
  • Maintain organized estimating files, bid documentation, pricing information, and historical cost data.
  • Track bid status, results, and relevant market or pricing information.
  • Maintain current knowledge of labor, material, equipment, and subcontractor pricing.
  • Follow established estimating procedures, approval requirements, and quality standards.

  • Experience with Bluebeam, OST, Accubid, Trimble, Procore, Autodesk Construction Cloud, or similar platforms.
  • Experience working with General Contractors, electrical contractors, owners, consultants, vendors, and subcontractors.
  • Bilingual English/Spanish is a plus.

Typical Physical and Mental Demands

The position requires the ability to manage small scale estimates, organize and analyze information, solve problems, exercise sound judgment, and meet established deadlines in a fast-paced business environment. The employee must be able to work collaboratively, and work towards the ability to estimate independently, maintain attention to detail, communicate effectively, and adapt to changing priorities and business needs.

While performing the duties of this position, the employee is regularly required to sit for extended periods, use hands and fingers to operate computers and other office equipment, communicate effectively, and occasionally stand, walk, bend, or reach. The position may require occasional travel to company locations, warehouses, customer locations, or active project sites. Employees visiting jobsites may be required to follow site-specific safety requirements and wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE).

The position may require occasional extended hours to meet business, project, or departmental deadlines.
