Job: Part-time, grant-funded, Union

Supervisor: Director of Youth & Family Programs

Hours: 20 to 28 hours per week. Wednesday through Friday availability required. (schedule varies based on programming needs, occasional weekend and evening work required, Mondays and Tuesdays required on select summer weeks for Studio classes)

Union Min Rate: $20.42 per hour

General Purpose:

Focusing on early childhood education, the incumbent will develop, coordinate, and implement Play Date with Art and Story Time in the Galleries. Develop and maintain ArtPack Station and ArtPack activities that engage a multi-generational youth and family audience in experiences that foster museum literacy and connect with the Museum's collection.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Develop and maintain materials and data for the ArtPack Station. Work shifts at the ArtPack Station, welcoming and assisting Museum visitors and family groups to borrow activities. Order, maintain, and organize materials for ArtPack Station. Develop new gallery activities.
  • Train staff to work at the ArtPack station. Communicate updates and model best practices with part-time staff.
  • Input and maintain digital records of ArtPack checkout data for reports.
  • Design and lead Play Date with Art program. Coordinate setup and layout with events team, book performers and guest organizations, develop activity zones and print materials, communicate project and activities to part-time staff, and model teaching. Order, prepare, and maintain supplies for the program. Maintain written and photographic documentation of programming.
  • Develop content and activities for Story Time in the Galleries. As needed, facilitate programming, book and coordinate collaborations with guest facilitators and communicate project and activities to part-time staff. Input and maintain digital records of programming data and details.
  • Provide written and photographic records of programs and activities.
  • Track programming budgets throughout year.

Supporting Responsibilities:

  • As assigned, lead the Kohl’s Studio outreach van at offsite events, which primarily take place outdoors in the summer and fall and indoors in the winter and spring. Drive the Kohl’s Studio van to offsite events, oversee the set-up and tear down of the temporary Studio space, communicate day-of logistics with staff, and function as supervisor on duty. As needed, communicate with community organizations, schools, and events hosting the offsite program to confirm schedule and day-of logistics.
  • As needed, work shifts in Kohl's Art Studio functioning as supervisor on duty. Assist with maintaining supplies, keeping records, lead and setting up the space, including setting up materials, and other duties as assigned.
  • In collaboration with the Youth and Family Team, develop and teach Youth and Family ticketed programs for the Milwaukee Art Museum on-site including Youth Studio Classes, and other programs at the Museum, in the community, and online.
  • Provide support for Family Sundays. As assigned, prepare materials, create decorations, hang artwork, maintain supply closet organization, and teach art activities.
  • As assigned, assist with and teach Studio Tour Workshops for school groups. Prepare, set up, and break down space and materials as needed.
  • As assigned, assist with marketing tasks, including developing copy for the monthly family e-news and communicating with marketing on various program-related initiatives such as videos, social media posts, and calendar updates.
  • As assigned, assist with collecting information for family studies.
  • As needed, greet school groups and public tours.
  • As assigned, develop, implement, evaluate, and/or assist with other special projects, programs, and partnerships at the Museum, in the community, or online.
  • Participate in Learning & Engagement and Youth & Family meetings
  • Assist with Youth & Family staff trainings.

Requirements

Education/Experience Requirements: Strong background in studio art, art education, and/or early childhood education. Experience in education for children ages 0-5 required. Need to be highly creative, personable, and organized with excellent communication skills.

Knowledge of art history beneficial. Degree in Fine Arts, Art Education, Art History, or related field with strong art making experience required. Demonstrated customer service skills also required.

License or Certification Requirements: Driver's license required.
