The assistant editor will: schedule and execute editorial training for all new editorial staff (all undergraduate students) each semester; oversee content editing and copyediting of students’ work for all press manuscripts; correspond with authors and schedule editorial timelines; delegate specific projects to managing editor(s) to ensure proper training and experience expectations of undergraduate students are met; deliver fully edited and author-approved manuscripts to the publisher/director for production and layout; advise the publisher/director on editorial policies, training of student editorial staff, and recruitment of new undergraduate interns; participate, when able, in public events as a representative of the press; meet regularly with press executive staff.This is a part-time (10 hours per week) position.**Full position description is available upon request. **Key Job Responsibilities:Researches and writes informational materials, generally within a single subject area, for publication and distributionConducts literature searches and develops tracking mechanisms to standardize manuscript preparation and submissionAssists in editing, revising, and proofreading materials and resolving errors or inconsistencies in style, syntax, grammar, and formatAssists in planning, developing, and publishing internal and external publicationsEdits manuscripts and text and maintains contact with internal and external stakeholders concerning published workDepartment:The University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point Department of English houses three (3) tracks within the English major and is staffed with seventeen (17) tenure-track faculty and ten (10) academic staff members. The department prides itself with providing students with the knowledge and skills necessary for success in a wide range of career paths: K-12 teaching, editing and publishing, higher education leadership, human services, and law, to name just a few. The study of English equips students to think logically and critically, write clearly, and communicate effectively.
