Job summary

Oakland Human Resources Consortium is seeking an Assistant Drama Coach to support a vibrant high school theatre program under the Drama Director. The role focuses on developing collaboration, leadership, and technical theatre skills while fostering a positive, learner-centered environment.

The position requires several evenings and some weekends throughout the school year, with a typical 3–6 p.m. availability on weekdays when possible. A $4,000 stipend is provided per the HPEA contract.

Qualifications

• Deep experience in high school, college, community, and/or professional theatre.
• Ability to work effectively with teenagers and adults in a collaborative and educational artistic environment.
• Strong communication, organization, and problem-solving skills.
• Dependability, flexibility, creativity, and a willingness to learn.
• Commitment to safety, inclusion, and positive mentorship.
• Fingerprinting and a clear criminal background check.

Responsibilities

• Supervise and support students during work sessions, technical rehearsals, performances, set strike, and other theatre-related activities.
• Mentor students in areas of theatrical specialty, especially technical theatre skills.
• Help create a supportive environment that encourages creativity, confidence, collaboration, and respect.
• Assist with production planning, organization, scheduling, communication, and more.
• Collaborate with students and staff to develop sets, props, costumes, lighting, sound, and other production elements, as needed.
• Help maintain orderly theatre spaces and supplies.
• Teach responsible use of technical theatre equipment and facilities.
• Communicate effectively and proactively with students, colleagues, and others.
