Under the division director's supervision, this position oversees personal property assessment activities. The primary goals are to ensure fair and uniform vehicle assessments, comply with regulations, generate revenue, and communicate promptly with Fairfax County residents. This position will supervise the operational areas of vehicle assessments and processing, DTA main call center, correspondence section, the vehicle tax evaders program, audits for the State of Virginia Personal Property Tax Relief Act (PPTRA), and military vehicle tax exemptions. Also reviews various vehicle tax categories and maintains high customer service standards while pursuing effective training initiatives. Manages all vehicle assessment appeals, ensuring standardized methods and follow-up, and interprets the Virginia tax code and county ordinances to resolve disputes. Responsibilities include maintaining records, preparing reports, and compiling data for management.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a bachelor’s degree in finance, public administration, business administration, or a related field with coursework in accounting and quantitative analysis. Four years of increasingly responsible professional financial or local/state tax administration experience, including three years of experience supervising professional and support staff.
NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
The appointee to this position will be required to complete a criminal background check and a credit check to the satisfaction of the employer.
This position is emergency/essential services personnel. (Required to report for duty during inclement weather and/or other emergencies.)
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Job is generally sedentary in nature; however, job entails sitting, walking, standing, bending, and handling materials with manual dexterity. Ability to lift up to 10 lbs. Ability to input, access, and retrieve information from a computer. Ability to communicate with others verbally and in writing. All duties performed with or without reasonable accommodations.
Panel Interview and may include a practical exercise.
