Job summary

Coastal Waste & Recycling is seeking an Assistant District Manager – Collections to lead multiple collection operations, coach Operations Managers, and drive safety and service excellence across a district. You will partner with leaders to raise performance, recruit and retain top talent, and develop future district leadership.

The role emphasizes coaching, operational consistency, and collaboration with cross-functional teams to achieve district objectives and growth.

Qualifications

  • Five or more years of progressive operational leadership experience.
  • Experience leading multiple operations, departments, or business units.
  • Proven success developing leaders and building high-performing teams.
  • Strong business acumen with experience managing budgets, labor, productivity, and performance.
  • Excellent communication, coaching, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced operational environment.
  • Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record.
  • Bachelor's degree, waste industry experience, CDL, bilingual (English/Spanish or English/Creole), and experience with Workday or Trux are a plus.

  • Build a culture centered on safety, accountability, teamwork, operational excellence, and customer service.
  • Ensure Operations Managers recruit, develop, coach, and retain high-performing teams.
  • Drive consistency across operations by reinforcing standards, expectations, and best practices.
  • Partner with Operations Managers to improve safety, route execution, labor and fleet utilization, productivity, and customer satisfaction.
  • Conduct leadership coaching sessions, ride-alongs, and field observations to support development.
  • Analyze KPIs to identify trends, improve efficiencies, and drive district-wide improvements.
  • Support budgeting, labor planning, capital planning, and fleet utilization initiatives.
  • Collaborate with departments to achieve district objectives and address issues promptly.

As an Assistant District Manager – Collections at Coastal Waste & Recycling, you'll partner with the District Manager to lead multiple collection operations while developing Operations Managers and helping drive the success of an entire district.

Your Role

As an Assistant District Manager – Collections, you'll provide leadership and support across multiple collection operations by coaching Operations Managers, driving operational consistency, promoting a strong safety culture, and ensuring exceptional service for our customers. You'll partner with leaders across the organization to improve operational performance, develop future leaders, and prepare yourself for the next step in your leadership journey.

What You'll Do
  • Lead, coach, develop, and hold accountable Operations Managers responsible for multiple collection operations throughout the district.

  • Build a culture centered on safety, accountability, teamwork, operational excellence, and exceptional customer service.

  • Ensure Operations Managers effectively recruit, develop, coach, and retain high-performing teams.

  • Drive consistency across collection operations by reinforcing company standards, leadership expectations, and best practices.

  • Partner with Operations Managers to improve safety performance, route execution, labor utilization, fleet utilization, productivity, customer satisfaction, and financial performance.

  • Conduct operational reviews, leadership coaching sessions, ride-alongs, and field observations to support operational excellence and leadership development.

  • Analyze key performance indicators to identify trends, improve efficiencies, and drive continuous improvement across the district.

  • Support budgeting, labor planning, capital planning, fleet utilization, and operational performance initiatives.

  • Partner with Customer Experience, Fleet Maintenance, Safety, Career Path, Human Resources, Finance, and other departments to achieve district objectives.

  • Investigate significant operational issues, customer escalations, accidents, and employee matters while ensuring timely corrective action.

  • Identify, mentor, and develop future Operations Managers and District Managers through coaching, succession planning, and leadership development.

  • Support acquisitions, new business implementations, municipal transitions, and other strategic initiatives as assigned.

  • Serve as the acting District Manager when needed.

What You’ll Bring
  • Five (5) or more years of progressive operational leadership experience.
